"Those courses on Xenodiplomacy didn't help very much.
They should have just stuck with saying: Improvise"
the basics Name || Lore Seeker, Revenant of Jaques Stayanoga the Elven Scholar, Official Imperial Scout Nicknames || Seeker, Lore, Scalpel, Lancer, That Thing, Hey You, The Robot, Damn AI Age || 70 Birthday || October 10th Species || Zaran Revenant, Magitech AIs created by recycling Donor's souls to power/be-reborn-as the sentient constructs Gender || Male Alignment/Faction || Lawful Neutral, Alliance, Zaran Empire Sexuality || What's that?
the appearance Face Claim || Null Height & Weight || 6ft. 0in. 400 lbs. Identifying Features || He lacks a mouth and nose, instead having a smooth plate that approximates the general shape, most of the rest of his body is covered in plates that've been individually carved with fractal patterns with great precision. His voice sounds like a Brit on the radio and the radio is stuck in a full-face helmet, tho when he is less formal he sometimes slips into a more Scottish manner of speaking. Overall || Tall-ish and kinda spindly, when fully clothed and hooded he could be mistaken for a human, but any serious inspection or a single word from him reveals his nature: His exterior is a metallic dark gray, His stance is too rigid, his movements mechanically precise, and he has a tendency to clank and tinkle when walking as his feet impact the ground and his plating rubs together. He usually just wears his standard uniform (A Ballistic vest over his composite plating all covered by cargo pants and a leather coat filled with pockets) but can occasionally be seen wearing his old lab-coat as he fiddles with machinery or studies his notes on magic. Aside from his clothing and the patterns he carved into his plating, he is physically indistinguishable from any other Zaran Revenant.
the personality Personal Strengths || Rational; He is perfectly comfortable in crowds, small groups, or completely alone, and enjoys them all for different reasons; Team Player; High Emotional Control; Curious.
Personal Weaknesses || Non-standard Emotions, appears Cold and Calculating; Non-Intuitive Empathy, can cause distrust; Curious to a fault; Foreign Patriot and Sentient AI.
Goals || As his name suggests, He wants to know all the things, but he also seeks to further the interests of his people in this vast and unsure universe.
Fears || Above all, He fears Mental Degradation and Intrusion/Interference; he also fears the possibility of failing and being seen as Incompetent
Overall || A being of science, Seeker is constantly striving to know things; and this curiosity is driven by both the yearning for the joy of discovery, the satisfaction of knowing, and the fear of failing due to ignorance, he is a firm believer that knowledge is power. His formative years in the Imperial Department Of Synthetic Creation and Orientation were filled with information regarding the Empire, the Nature of the Universe, and the Endless Possibilities inherent to both. During his time in the Imperial Army, he was trained in the Way of the Warrior, to leave no-one behind and finish the mission no matter the personal cost; his time in the Army also showed him the differences between Revenants and Organics, how the organics are somehow more fragile yet more resilient than the thinking machines that they created, so easy to accidentally harm yet strong enough to thrive in the freezing wastes and choking jungles of Unity. He has seen fear, respect, envy, and even adoration in the eyes of those he served with and the other Zarans he met after his service; and to this day he hasn't decided what to think of that. Ultimately, he knows that he is fundamentally different from naturally occurring beings, and fears that he may never truly understand them. He seeks to understand everything, to be able to file everything away for later retrieval, to find some order in the chaos of the universe.
the history Family Information || No Parents, No Siblings, No Children; family for him is those that he trusts his life with, his comrades, his people, the Empire Homeworld || Unity, Capital of The Zaran Empire, He was created and taught by the government and went on to serve the people first as a soldier then a scientist and now a scout/emissary History || The first 50 years of his life were spent on Unity, the Empire hadn't encountered other societies yet and still hadn't when he was selected from thousands of fellow Revenant volunteers for Operation Voyager and he finally set out in a state-of-the-art scouting vessel 20 years ago in the direction of what is known as The Orion Spur, after meandering, refueling, and exploring various worlds whilst waiting for FTL cool-down he finally arrived in Galfed Territory and was greeted by the local law enforcement. Other Information || Nothing comes to mind atm.
the verse-specific details Abilities || Inorganic: Seeker needs not breathe, eat, sleep, or drink. Is immune to poisons, Disease, and Harmful Mutagens. He doesn't experience pain like Organics do, it is a purely intellectual thing ("Oh, I've taken damage" as opposed to "Oh God! I've Been Shot!").
Zaran Magitech Construct: Seeker is capable of Directly Interfacing with Zaran Technology; has a potentially unlimited lifespan (Mental Degradation and eventual madness may occur if left without something to do); and has Composite plating capable of deflecting most blades, small arm's fire (Irl small-calibre weapons), and most shrapnel. seeker can use any Zaran Magical artifact as intended, and should be able to figure out most basic artifacts. His essential components are all housed within his Torso, so whilst having his head blown off will leave him Blind, Deaf, and Mute, it won't kill him, though if his core is destroyed there isn't any chance of recovering him. He can replace almost all of his components and improve upon his own design if provided with time, resources, and the occasional bit of assistance.
Arcane Reserves, Medic-Class: Seeker is able to innately cast a couple spells with little effort, and can manage two levels (two 1st lvl castings or one 2nd lvl) of Cure wounds or Mending/Repair Damage with a 12 hour recharge per spell level (note: this is equivalent to basic medical treatment of wounds, stops bleeding and restores a little functionality). Seeker is also capable of producing electrical shocks sufficient for Defibrillation (and he knows CPR) with some concentration.
Skills || He is competent with the use and maintenance of Standard Zaran Weapons; extensively trained in search-and-rescue methods; experienced in dealing with various dangerous beasts both on the battlefield and the dissection table; has experience with patching humanoids and fellow Revenants back together via magical and mundane means; is highly proficient in Early-Slip-Space navigation and the maintenance of his ship; has dealt with 20 years of almost perfect isolation; and is really good at carving fractal patterns in various materials.
Training || Standard Zaran Army Training: Rifles, Pistols, swords (mostly one-handed), basic healing magic, magical artifact use, First-aid, and squad tactics; A couple Decades of studying the constantly mutating life-forms within Unity's Jungles: xenobiology, basic surgery (from emergency procedures conducted on co-workers); Training for Operation Voyager and subsequent 20 years in space: Zaran Long-Range Scout Operation and Maintenance, FTL navigation, Dealing with isolation, and carving fractal patterns (lots and lots of practice)
Combat Strengths || His standard plating should deflect most small-arms fire, he doesn't feel pain or fatigue, he can function as a combat-medic, and he is resistant to most environmental effects (tho his gear may not be). Due to the combination of his training and mechanical nature, his marksmanship is extremely good, being able to properly aim at almost anything that he can see with the accuracy not impacted by things like hand-shaking or breathing.
Combat Weaknesses || He has no sense of smell or taste, cannot benefit from consumables, has no natural healing ability, is not stealthy, generally has less advanced technology than most folks out there.
Additional Details || Languages: Zaran, Binary, and basic English, has a Grav-Harness capable of providing 1G of acceleration in any direction for up to 1 hour every day, or less acceleration for proportionally greater times (requires a full 24 hours of inactivity to recharge)[Intended for Zero-G activity]. Seeker is able to lift around 800 pounds due to his strong frame and artificial muscle fibers supported by redundant motors.
Weapons || Seeker's Weapons are Archaic even by Imperial Standards, They're 20 years old and not getting any younger. He has made small modifications to make them easier for him to use, namely the addition of scopes and creation of a larger clip for the Mag Rifle. His ship's fabrication unit can easily produce ammunition and replacement parts for his weapons if provided with the material. (Yes, the included images were yoinkt from Xenonauts cuz they look cool)
New Imperial Magnetic Scout Rifle Mk 5: A weapon that accelerates metal slugs to high velocities. Clip size: 100 1g pellets, 10 10g spikes, or 1 275g Breach-loaded spike. Variable zoom scope: 5x, 25x. Rate of Fire: Semi-Automatic. Seeker also has two additional attachments that allow him to charge this weapon's shot's with elemental energy, These add on a 1 second charge time but allow him to burn and electrocute his enemies respectively (not simultaneously though). The Weapon Fires 1g pellets at 5.5 km/s resulting in 15 kj at the muzzle, 10g spikes at ~1.7 km/s, or 275g Spikes at 330 m/s for stealth operations. Lower Energy Firings are possible, and suggested for organic operators that can't withstand such forces unless wearing a powered combat harness.
20-year old Imperial Mag Pistol: The Side-arm cousin of the Mag Rifle, it operates on the same principle just on a smaller scale. It's destructive power is equivalent to the M-6 Carnifex Hand-Cannon of the Trigon Galaxy but, again, has a smaller clip and lower fire-rate. Clip size: 5, Rate of Fire: Semi-Automatic. Fires 1g pellets at 2.8 km/s resulting in 4 Kj at the muzzle. Lower Energy Firings are possible, and highly suggested for organic operators that can't handle the recoil.
20-year old Imperial UV-IR Laser Rifle: This weapon was originally designed for Zero-G combat where the impressive recoil of the Mag weapons would be crippling, instead it fires intense blasts of EM-radiation on the Infrared and Ultraviolet spectrums. It has a replaceable capacitor capable of storing 1000 firings before needing to charge, but due to heat the weapon can only fire once per second. Seeker added a scope capable of 10x and 100x magnification. The limit to the Laser's effective range is 1000 meters in Earth equivalent atmosphere, 10km in vacuum, and varies for other environments accordingly. The weapon produces 10 kj bursts of IR-UV radiation focused on a 0.5 cm^2 area within optimal ranges.
20-year old Imperial Shock Blade: This weapon's blade is forged from a combination of a Titanium foam for the core and a solid Titanium edge, all laminated in Graphene. The Superconductive blade is attached to a Hilt with a built in power source that is capable of storing and discharging lethal amounts of electricity. The Blade is easily replaced using the Arrow's Fabricator, but the Hilt's power source incorporates enchantments that are not easily reproduced. The weapon's power source is capable of generating up to 30 watts consistently (11.25 being required for maximum effectiveness discharge for human fatality), and has capacitors that may be charged for greater discharges (up to 1 kj). Strikes should be aimed to keep the target's vitals between the point of contact and the point of grounding, and non-grounded targets are mostly unaffected by the discharge. Note: even if the target is unaffected by the shock, it's still getting stabbed/slashed, if at first it doesn't die, slash slash again.
Modern Imperial Grenades: Printable from his vessel's fabricator, Seeker has access to multiple varieties of particularly potent grenade. Frag: 100 g ONC, 100g Steel Shrapnel
Flashbang: same as RL flashbangs, pretty simple
HE: 200g ONC
Thermite: 10g ONC, 190g Thermite
Thermobaric:10g ONC, 190g solid fuel powder
Smoke: that’s it, it’s a smoke grenade
Pepper: 10g ONC, 190g Capsaicin Aerosol Solution
He usually only carries two to three grenades at one time, and two flashbangs. His usual Loadout consists of two HEs and sometimes a Smoke Grenade, but he keeps a stock of at least three of each type on his ship.
Recently Acquired Equipment Spur-Tech Precision Particle Rifle: A Mercenary-Grade derivation of the Covenant Beam Rifle, this weapon is Capable of generating ~100kj beams at roughly 10rpm with an effective range of approximately 2km without additional modification. It has been modified with a Zaran Sniper-scope, the same variety used on the Laser Rifle, with 10x and 100x magnifications as well as an interface point for integrated targeting.
Spur-Tech Personal Shield: Mercenary-Grade personal shielding unit with a 200kj capacity that refreshes after 8 seconds or reboots 15 seconds after depletion. It has been integrated with Seeker's personal power system.
Ablative Ceramic armour suit: Worn over the uniform, this fairly light suit of un-powered armour is primarily composed of disposable ceramic tiles designed to boil away and disperse incoming DEW fire for a handful of shots. Essentially just one more layer of redundancy, it's not intended to be the primary method of defense.
Current Story || Upon Entering GalFed Space, Seeker was intercepted by Local Law Enforcement investigating a strange slip-space signature (the Arrow). Seeker initiated the Standard First-Contact Protocol, and broadcast various mathematical formulae to the new vessels, limited communication was established and he was willingly taken into custody for questioning.
the roleplayer Pen Name || Telaros, Zarus, Valerian, Captain Neckbeard of the S.S. Fedora, Jaques, Seeker, Riftwalker, Johann, John, any of these will work just fine Age || 20 Other Characters || None so far Roleplay Sample || The strange Organic tapped its finger on the table, seemingly agitated as he spoke, his words were incomprehensible, but over the speakers came the familiar music of the mathematical Machine Tongue: "What, and Who the Hell are you?" Seeker was mildly confused as to what they meant by "the Hell", not only was he not from them, but there were nine Hells; nonetheless, he didn't want to risk physical conflict as these beings (people he ought to call them, they aren't zarans, but they're certainly people) had highly advanced technology and so responded the best he could... "I am a Zaran Imperial Scout, My Personal Designation is Lore Seeker. As for the part relating to 'The Hell', I cannot answer that part without first knowing which Hell you are referring to, though I can tell you that I am not of Infernal Origin. I am willing to answer your queries, but please remember that some topics are classified... uh, any inquiries regarding The Founder will be gladly answered." Was that sufficient to prevent conflict? Did he reveal too much? Shouldn't he have mentioned The Founder? The courses he took before being sent out did nothing to help him prepare for this sort of interaction, this... interrogation. Did he inadvertently break these people's laws? Was his beautiful ship, and it's painstakingly carved patterns, ugly in their eyes? The Organic's eyes narrowed slightly (shit, I fucked up), and it spoke again with the words "Tell me about this Founder" coming over the speakers... Ah, Excellent, He did something right. "Well, first off, it's The Founder, also known as Zarus, God of The Empire, and The Prophet/Harbinger of Law and Order. He founded our Empire about a thousand years ago after conquering what had once been known as the Lawless Wastes, and he led The Empire until his death and deification, leaving the guidelines for the selection of new Emperors that would eventually lead to you and me talking here today. If it weren't for The Founder, it is likely that I wouldn't exi-... did I say something offensive?" The Organic rose up in a seemingly aggressive manner, barking out orders in his alien tongue, and left the interrogation chamber at a fast clip, leaving the confused synthetic alone in the room to process what occurred. Seeker decided that he didn't have enough information and ought to "play it cool" for the time being, at-least until he knew what to be anxious about, and began inspecting his plating to look for scuff marks and clean out the carvings.
Anything Else || If I'm doing something wrong, just tell me, I can't improve if I don't know that I'm getting stuff wrong, and it's very difficult to unintentionally piss me off so be blunt.
Please make sure to review all the documents again, dive into the lore, and do what you need to do in order to start roleplaying!
