Monomachiarum is a multifandom experiece that takes the characters into the chaotic future of the 30th century in the great expanse of space. Our lore is a combination of worlds brought in from other franchises, lore created by the site founder, and user-submitted information in order to make a vast and diverse setting. Add your pages to our grand story no matter who your characters might be or where they came from before. This is a place meant to explore possibilities and open new doors. Canons and OCs are welcome, just so long as they can fit into the setting with a little bit of reasonable modification here and there if necessary. So what are you waiting for? Join us today! About the Character
Franchise This Character is From || Metroid, Super Smash Bros.
How Much Experience Do You Have With Character/Franchise? || Since I was a kid playing the Metroid games, the 1994 Nintendo Power five part comic, the 2002 Metroid Manga, even the 90s Captain N Comics. Accounting that, in terms of writing the character, five years previous RP experience as Samus on various outlets prior to going dark online, writing several...admittedly bad fanfics as a teenager, and currently writing an in-progress AU fanfic series.
Why Would This Character Be A Good Fit For Our Site? || Outside the core of the Metroid story, Samus is, for the most part, just a powerfully equipped freelancer. She's in a way, anyone, as opposed to a figure of mystical and divine power such as Link from the Zelda series. She can go anywhere and be able to fit as a supporting role instead of overwhelming a cast of characters. And being from a space opera setting, it's not out of place for her to travel to other worlds and galaxies.
Do You Roleplay This Character Elsewhere? || Currently, active with Samus on Twitter and AniRoleplay, semi-active on Facebook, and getting active in Discord roleplays
Alignment/Faction || Chaotic Good / Galactic Federation of Sol-Daiban(GalFed-SDG)
In your own words
Explain Your Character || Samus is...a force of nature. She lost her parents brutally as a toddler, in a fashion far worse than the infamous death of the Waynes in Batman lore. Yet she still holds herself together as this figure of heroics and purpose, keeping to a decisive code of honor and personal responsibility. Her Chozo family gave her so much so that she could become a powerful sentinel against the downfall of the galaxy, and sometimes she's had to take a stand against the very Federation she has been protecting. Yet she still has compassion and her own desires, she's not a damn machine. And even after losing all of her family, human and Chozo, to Ridley and the Pirates, Samus still pushes on. She knows she has a greater purpose still waiting for her. To do any less would to be let down her human biological parents and her Chozo father.
Will Your Portrayal Deviate From Canon? || As this rendition of Samus is rooted from my own take on the Metroid Universe, yes, there are a number of major deviations from canon. I'll be posting a listing soon of those changes and such as soon as possible. In terms of her timeline, accounting for things that are necessary to know, my Samus has experienced the events of Zero Mission. That's pretty much it. Originally I had been setting her post-Fusion, but this was realized as kinda restricting for anyone else who may wish to RP as a character from the Metroid setting.
Why Do You Love This Character? || Metroid was my first game as a kid. I'd watched my cousin playing stuff on his old NES, but actually playing a game myself...Metroid was the first for me when I got to hold that controller and take control myself. And Samus has meant so much ever since. Samus is a character who is strong, determined, and a literal tank. But she still showed humanity and compassion in what little we saw of her beyond the suit, and little nuances in her actions in the games. A strong woman doesn't have to be a cold hearted machine of a person, even someone who cares and has compassion can be a total badass.
Writing example one
She stumbled onto the entry lift of her ship, keying it to take her inside. Cracks ran along her armor from the sheer forces that she'd been subjected to. And she was the one who had walked away intact.
A pause as the seal hatch locked shut under the lift platform. A stumbled step, followed by leaning against the nearby bulkhead. After a moment, her armor simmered and broke apart into glowing sections formed of light before fading away. Which left her to nearly fall to the deck if she hadn’t caught herself.
“Samus, are you alright?”
She breathed heavily, trying to get her strength back after the ordeal she had just been through. “I walked away, she didn't.” A moment, and Samus could stand again, enough to reach the pilot's seat and slip into her spot there. Her entire body was aching, her joints were stiff, but she was alive. “Fire the engines, and set course back to Valissia Prime. Don’t hold up on the fold drive, either. I don’t want to stick around here.”
On the main communications screen, the image of a dark haired man was rendered, with an expression on his face of concern. That never sounded like things went according to plan. “Jackal is dead, per your mission, isn’t she?”
“I said I walked away, and she didn't,” Samus snapped back angrily. She normally didn’t get like this in response to the AI mind of Adam Malkovitch. Something was bothering her. “Get us in the air, and back to Valissia Prime.” A pause. “Any objections?”
The facial render gave a frown. He wasn’t convinced, and the fact Samus was dodging his question put him at unease. She wasn’t usually one to be so moody. “Setting course and beginning launch.”
The rumble and the following lurch as the gunship lifted off were both little noticed by Samus as she laid back in her seat. She was still breathing heavily, to the point that she was clearly exhausted from what had gone on. After a moment, she tapped one of the console compartments to open the small storage panel and pull out the bottle inside of it. The top twisted off, and two pills from within taken and swallowed as fast as possible.
“Estimated arrival to Valissia Prime, six hours.”
Enough time to get some sleep. Maybe even not dream, if she was lucky. “Wake me up once we make orbit,” the young woman stated as she slowly got out of the pilot’s chair and headed to the back of the gunship, and to her bed. “I’m going to try and get some sleep.”
Writing example two
The acid rains of the planet had ceased, allowing the native fauna to resume life on the planet's surface. Most lifeforms inhabited the cave networks of the planet since the surface was often wracked by storms, but some still made their effort to populate the topside. It was a harsh life, regardless, and all that lived on the planet had adapted and evolved to their challenge. Yet, the planet still thrived despite these obstacles.
In one of the desolate areas, a brightly colored form came to a crashing landing, left hand solidly placed against the ground as support while a forest-green cannon was mounted on the right arm at the elbow. Red plates covered the chest and head with a distinctive bird-like helmet and an emerald green visor. The armored form rose up to their feet, then raced off down a crude natural path, now making their way back to what was considered civilization. A vaulted hop over one of many rock outcroppings, a roll forward to make sure all momentum was redirected and their speed not lost, and they were racing away again.
From behind a shattered rock formation rose a series of drones, each one now chasing after the yellow and red armored figure. Pink bursts of laser energy fired from optic lenses, and each one was avoided at the figure in yellow armor dipped, bobbed, and weaved about the canyon floor. The sleek viridian firearm was quickly aimed when the figure took a moment to pause, flaring as bright yellow pulses exploded from the muzzle port and tore through the air. Two drones shattered into scrap and ruined parts, another pair following even as the personage in armor began sprinting across the canyon floor. The drones took chase, firing their pink colored charges of energy in attempt to even scratch the armored form, and each one failed.
Another carefully calculated pair of saffron pulses, two more drones destroyed while the armored figure hurried further into the canyon, now using the branches and outcrops as cover from the remaining dozen drones. Two of the drones raced ahead, trying to lock target, but both slammed into a stone pillar when the armored figure used their targeting focus against them.
It was upon bursting out of the canyon path that the figure turned, aiming the emerald arm cannon just as a few of them started to attempt an attack formation. Clever machines. The saffron bursts tore out from the muzzle port, smashing through the drones again, with more shots following. Pink bursts discharged at the figure, but each shot was countered by a matching beam of yellow, causing a series of explosions with the impacts.
And then, the drones withdrew, leaving the armored figure to relax their posture, powering down the massive arm cannon while they waited. When they saw the speeder lift approach from the distance, the free left hand came up and pried off their helmet, revealing the tied back blonde hair, baby face and bright green-blue eyes of Samus Aran as the lift came to a stable halt. She tucked her helmet under her free arm, now letting the breeze washed over her face instead of the contained atmosphere of her armor suit.
Writing example three
She held onto her Chozo father's feathered hand as they walked down the landing ramp. It was not often that she was brought along on one of their trade journeys, but she had begged Maru for this, since she had rarely been able to leave Zebes, and she hoped to make some friends, even for just a few days. And so, despite Gray Voice expressing his concerns, Maru had brought the six-year-old little girl along with them.
Samus blinked with wonder as she got a glimpse of the world. It looked similar to the pictures she'd seen of Sol-3, where her parents had come from, but the population was incredible. Some looked like humans, but many of them had striped markings on their skin, like patterns of fur on a cat. “They’re pretty,” she whispered as Maru looked at her and crashed his soft beak into a smile. “Are they like Kilrathi?”
“They are called Khagolians,” the young adult Chozo replied. Truly, the little girl's curiosity and sense of wonder connected with his own and remind him what it was like to see with such innocent eyes. “The original pure blood has long been intermingled with other races for the most part, but they are distinct and enduring as a species.” Maru gave a gentle chuff of amusement. “The royal family is of the Khagolian race. Perhaps you might have chance to meet them while we’re here.”
A disapproving chuff came from the taller Chozo who bore a squashed beak, grey eyes, and patterns of silver feathers. “We have business with the Belvederes, Maru. This is not a play date for your ward.” His eyes narrowed at the girl even as she shied away to hide behind Maru. “You should not have permitted her to come here.”
“Gray Voice, she has been all but locked up in the Nest for three years. She needs to interact with others, especially other children.”
Her attention was drawn by seeing some children go by. They all had such pretty patterns on their skin...
