May 2023 It's been hectic this last year, but we are alive and celebrating our fifth year of adventure and tales. A lot has been worked on to help make the Monoverse one that everyone can enjoy and explore their story while becoming a part of the greater cosmos. All of you, new and long time players, stay safe, and see you in the Sea of Stars!
Part of Project Sylux's efforts to create the next generation of supercommando warfare to once and for all claim the quality edge in not just ground based super soldiers but also craft for the very best aces to fly that would bring about aerospace superiority through select teams of "superaces" comprised out of squadrons made out of handselected ace of aces. Operating under the truism that Ace pilots make 80% of aerospace strike craft kills, the Delano aircraft would ensure that Federation Aces would dominate in all engagements while also having faster than light capabilities to allow for sudden, surgical strikes without warning. With Zurvduat's "Imperator Squadron"'s flight data to help perfect the craft as well as the flight data of the famous "Eagle" squadron, the craft had an initial serial run of 12 units produced at great expense. The Delano 7 was to be piloted by the infamous "Eagle 7", as the legendary Ace Jack Darcy eagerly anticipated his chance to get to fly one of the beauties. This chance never came as Arne stole the 7th aircraft during his escape from the project Sylux base after damning it to destruction by convincing the planet's Palatine Mind control system that Zurvduat had committed Treason against the Tetrarch Order and thus he and all who associated with him were to face execution; and had stolen Jack Darcy's command access from him after shooting his Cestus-SM strike fighter down with his Sleipnir craft after achieving the element of surprise; inflicting the ace pilot's first ever aerial defeat (along with that of his wingmen; making Arne one of the few pilots to make Ace in a single engagement) and leaving him for dead.
SHIP CLASS AND SIZE
Class: Heavy Aerospace Superiority Strike Fighter Length: 22 m Width: 11 m (Wings stowed), 18 m (Wings extended) Height: 3.5 meters (tails stowed) 5 meters (Tails extended) Occupancy: 1 – can carry up to 2 passengers Sublight Speeds: 600 km/s Atmospheric Combat Maneuvering Top Speed: Mach 12 in Earthlike atmosphere, Governed to Mach 6 for safety Overdrive speeds: 1,200 km/s FTL Drive and Speed: Reverse engineered Alimbic Infinity Drive, capable of cruise speeds of 500 light years per hour and "sprint speeds" of 1000 light years per hour sustainable for a maximum of three hours before three hour cool down is required.
Any additional Info: Due to Arne's addiction to mechanical tinkering and Straela's perhaps unfortunate habit of indulging him in it, the Delano 7 continually undergoes minor alterations to make it better suit his personal flying style. Over time this can lead to the Delano 7 looking and preforming very radically different.
ARMAMENTS AND DEFENSES
Defense: 20 centimeters Classified nanocomposite armor plating (functionally identical to Bendezium armour plating, shares the Sylux armour's vulnerability to laser and concussive weapons), 475 cm equivalency dimensional flux shielding, Tyr electronic countermeasure systems (can prevent computerised lock ons by craft lacking the appropriate counter-counter measures or alternative targeting systems and even cause missiles approaching to refuse to arm properly, however the forward hydrogen ram scoops remain a vulnerable point for incoming missile fire, making head on attacks the best option), Ullr pattern active defense lasers (x2) (Strictly anti-missile, though against sufficiently primitive aircraft such as pre-space faring piston and jet planes it has the punch to slice through them.)
Armaments: Variable weapon undercarriage mounted flexible turret (typically fits a kinetic burst cannon capable of fine tuning its energy output from anti-personnel to anti-structure outputs, but this can be swapped out with compatible weapon modules as needed), nose mounted rotary (x6 barrels) decisecond fire rapid pulse laser emitter, internal bay and pylon fitted missile and bomb launchers (number, type, and warheads variable depending on loadout).
Due to imperfections in the design in small part and complications from Arne's constant modification of the firmware to suit his own personal flight style in larger part, repeated hits to the Hull or Shielding will cause the undercarriage turret gun to jam temporarily as the ship reboots and refreshes the undercarriage weapon. This flaw is exploitable even by power beam scale weapons with two charged power beam shots being enough to force the undercarriage turret to reboot. It is an issue he is aware of and is working to correct as he adjusts to the ship.
UNIQUE FEATURES
As the Sleipnir before it, Arne has fitted an empathic control system to the Delano 7 with the aid of Elmorni. When he flies it, it is part of him. The plane alone is not always enough to defeat a foe, it is his body when he rides in its cockpit, and when it is not enough he must put his soul into it. This lets him virtually become one with the plane, moving it as effortlessly as he can his own body, achieving a fine degree of control that lets him squeeze the extra preformance out of his craft that can be necessary to achieve triumph in tight conditions. Also, unlike most aerospace craft, when in atmosphere the Delano 7 is capable of post-stall motions and supermaneuvres such as the post-stall dive, the pugachev's cobra, and the kulbit. It features high grade passive stealth systems that make detecting it through most nonvisual scanners considerably difficult, with its RADAR profile being akin to that of a micro-meteorite, though anti-stealth countermeasures can still detect it. When necessary, the craft is able to lock the pilot or all occupants in stasis, useful if long journeys with nothing of interest are likely in the future.
The vessel contains a bed, basic kitchen systems (usually used to heat up preprepared food due to lack of space for more complex ingredients), equipment and food storage with the former also having the means to help him enact armour and weapon repairs, lavatorial facilities and medical systems in its limited floorspace. While cramped, especially for someone as tall as Arne is, the craft is able to offer comfortable enough living conditions to call home essentially indefinitely as long as supplies hold. There is however, a good reason that when he has down time he usually retires to Cylosis or Uskarling clan space however and the ceiling is low enough that he has hit his head when waking up more than a few times, still used to the somewhat taller Sleipnir which was custom built with his estimated adult height in mind.
Alright. First thing's first. I believe it was mentioned multiple times in several different chats, but the Alimbics are not a precursor level civilization - they're advanced but not to the point of simply being better than the existing military superpowers. Towards that end.... numbers. 500 to 550 kilometers per second is the gold standard for the best aerospace fighters the Terran Confederation can field. 700 is the bracket that Samus Aran's gunship sits in, as do Sangheili/Banished Seraph fighters - they are able to do this due to being hyperspecialized for vacuum and space engagements as heavy space superiority fighters, and the trade off for that is they suffer from very poor performance in atmosphere save for their top speed in a straight line. Right now the Sleipnir's 950 k/s base speed is way too high, and that's to say nothing of its 1,850 - after speaking with Chozo Huntress the overdrive on Samus' gunship is only 1,350, and that's a case where being bigger may very well be better in vacuum. It means more power to put into engines without atmospheric drag getting in the way, and as a fighter the Sleipnir would drastically outperform in maneuverability instead. Speaking of atmosperic drag.... at 27 meters this ship will not handle like a fighter in atmosphere.
Getting to the rest of the app... defensive systems. We need to have an idea of what exactly Tetrachite alloy's properties are before agreeing to its usage. The exact capabilities of the ship's ECM system need to be detailed as well, and the range/accuracy/power/general abilities of the "active defense lasers". Do they simply target and detonate incoming missiles or mines? Or are they powerful enough to significantly damage enemy fighters that get close enough?
Armaments, likewise, are probably going to need to be cut way down if you want this ship to be even remotely as fast as Samus' gunship despite being smaller, especially in atmosphere. They FAR exceed the two pulse lasers and single continuous beam laser you had inquired after before. The stealth system likewise was not mentioned before - how it functions needs to be detailed as not all stealth packages are created equal nor do they all work the same, and no system is perfect. This thing is outfitted as a stealth hit and run/ambush gunship, not a space superiority fighter.
Ultimately, this needs to be rewritten. Not as a ship simply better than everything else, but as something capable of competing within the existing setting. It should be noted that every fighter design philosophy is going to have a demerit. If you want to be a good all rounder? You won't be able to match more specialized designs within their specified roles. The Sleipnir as it is now (an all rounder with a couple of advanced systems, notably FTL) would not be able to compete with the Delano 7 in vacuum as it's explicitly stated to be a dedicated space superiority fighter, and developed using the best technology the Federation could develop, buy or steal.
See my note on the Sylux armor regarding the Bendezium usage, and take that into account with what's being said below. The heavier the armor and the more damage you can take, the slower and less maneuverable you're going to be. There is no perfect design for anything. A full meter of armor is something more comparable to what UNSC Longswords - heavy fighter/bombers at 64 meters long and with wingspans of 75 meters - had. A ship the size of the Delano 7 should have maybe a tenth of that unless it's being built as a heavy bomber, the kind that typically requires escort against enemy fighters. Likewise, as noted with the Sylux armor that means this ship would inherit that weakness/vulnerability to laser and high temperature weaponry.
First and foremost... as a canon craft, the Delano 7 has a few set details and quirks. It's explicitly noted in lore, for example, that the craft is far from perfect and suffers from a flaw regarding its shielding and hull armor - supposedly enough direct hits results in an issue where the ship's autocannon becomes disabled, I don't see note of that anywhere in the app.
Second, while I'm unable to find any sources pertaining to the ship's specific mission profile we're once again running into the same issue we did before with the Sleipnir. If you want a jack of all trades ship it will not be able to compete with other fighters built for specific mission profiles on their home turf, especially with GalFed having to deal with 700 years of catch up versus Confed's designs and over 4,000 years of perfecting and refining Sangheili/Banished designs. A workhorse is never a bad idea, especially in bounty hunting when the job's demands can change at the drop of a dime, but it's not going to beat dedicated space superiority fighters for raw performance in vacuum environments nor atmospheric fighters on their home turf. What it will do is allow Arne to fight both without sacrificing overall performance in one environment to gain an edge in another - Covenant Seraphs, while terrifyingly fast and maneuverable in space, had very sluggish and clumsy handling in planetary atmospheres for example.
That said. If you want this ship able to perform complex maneuvers like that in atmosphere and handle well enough there to outfly most fighters in that environment, it's probably not going to match space focused fighters for raw speed and maneuverability there, certainly not 800 k/s with a 1,400 overdrive. Currently the best in class is 700 at full burn, and that's using technology that the Federation simply does not have access to. Even with Alimbic involvement the Federation is going to be limited to what they can reverse engineer and produce themselves - as with Project Sylux the point of the program would've been to develop something they can produce themselves and improve upon without outside help. The moment they violate that rule is the moment the program ultimately fails and they have to go back to the drawing board - it's independence from Confed as their military that's the goal.
The bones of the ship are sound, but something's got to give where performance is concerned - the ship needs to pick a role and stick to it. The only other thing of note is that while ECM is still an effective countermeasure against a lot of things there are sensor methods out there in Monomachiarum that do not rely on your usual radar/ladar and conventional targeting as it exists in real life right now, and you should be aware that there are situations where passive (conventional) stealth systems will simply not be enough to evade detection or targeting.
