Unity, 2181 Years After Discovery, 10th year of the Age of Heavenly Destruction, Republic of the Scale, Capital City of Dragon's Moot

Zaran and Republic soldiers parade through the ancient streets as civilians look on with a mix of joy, trepidation, and concern. Everyone knew that the Republic soldiers were only there at the Empire's pleasure, a pair of binoculars could easily reveal the black silhouettes of Imperial H.A.I.L. platforms hanging suspended just beneath the dancing lights of the aurora.

The news channels were all showing the talks currently taking place in the embassy, and anyone could tell that they were highly one-sided. The Imperial "Diplomats" were practically dictating what the republic would do, and everyone present knew there wasn't much to be done in opposition. One couldn't do much to argue with someone demanding your cooperation at the point of a gun, especially when that gun was backed up by dozens of bigger guns held up higher than anything you have can possibly reach. Needless to say, the overall feeling was tense; Some argued that death was preferable to subjugation as the Republic shouldn't bow to anyone, but the vast majority saw an end to war after 50 years of constant bloodshed, 50 years of losing family and friends.

Meriss looked down to where her left leg had once been, a faint dull pain dancing through naught but air as she recalled the moments of terror, pain, and fury that led to it's loss;
The elven guerrillas shouted, "Position compromised, retreat, RETREAT!", as super-heated slugs started tearing through the jungle and setting the foliage ablaze with their passing. Lt.'s orders got interrupted by the sound of wet splattering and a thud. She squeezed a few rounds off at where the enemy may be as she turned to follow the elves, the scouting mission had become a get-the-fuck-out-and-survive mission. "This is Seer to Central, we've been ambushed, multiple casualties, requesting backup", the last time she saw holes that big put through trees it was a group of exosuits supported by auxiliary riflemen, there wasn't much one could do without anti-armour weaponry.
The world would momentarily be washed out by an explosion of white-hot pain and the sound of sizzling flesh as a slug lances through her leg mid-stride. The ground rose to meet her as there was nothing to support her weight, cry of panic and pain silenced as the air was driven from her lungs. A pair of hands would grab her, dragging her through the foliage towards a cluster of boulders.
"This is Central, a group of Wargs are en route to assist, terrain will not permit other vehicles, sit tight"

The savagery that Imperials were capable of in the heat of battle was disturbing, especially the Wargs. Car-sized beasts of metal piloted by equally metallic men, moving with more grace than any machine has any right to, they were designed to inspire terror in the enemy. The Imperials were quite fond of their psychological warfare tactics, something that Meriss just couldn't see the Republic ever doing, it required too much moral flexibility, and now they were "seeking to foster a lasting and prosperous peace" and "usher in a new age of global cooperation".

She didn't trust the Zarans, she'd seen what they're capable of, but she knew that they couldn't do anything against them, she'd seen what they're capable of.

Unity, 2237 Years After Discovery, 54th Year of the Age of Reconstruction, DweMer Liberation Zone, Arlburg

The Equatorial Jungles are stained black by the flames of a war decades past, the soil still smells of smoke, and the husks of once elegant spires entwined with towering trees play host to scavengers of all sorts. The streets are filled with the sounds of industry, as foreign repair and relief crews continue their work of rebuilding a ravaged nation. Foreman Corax of the Republic would look out at the scene with a mixture of sadness and hope, the city had been abandoned during the course of the war and most thought it'd stay as such, but someone over in the empire saw an opportunity. The city was now a major project, being used to boost economic activity whilst also serving as a symbol. Glancing down at the plans, a hybrid of traditional DweMer architecture combined with Imperial and Republic innovations, the spires wouldn't be entwined with any ancient trees, but they'd be filled to the brim with foliage that'd serve to slowly reinforce the structure over time whilst also providing for the inhabitants; a living monument to the resilience of civilization.

Corax hand't been bothered much by the Empire, they mostly left the republic to it's own devices, and made for very reliable trade partners. Their missionaries were mildly annoying with their preaching, but they helped the community wherever they could, so some annoyance could be forgiven. What worried him though, was how aggressive they were being in the reconstruction efforts, like they were preparing for something, the winters had been much colder than before the Tenebral war and it's eruptions, but it shouldn't merit that yet. Either way, it meant there was no shortage of work for him and his men, they'd been clearing and rebuilding here for a few years now; unfortunately, there was still the occasional attack, small raiding parties, but the Imperials kept a force present at all times, they even helped with the work when not mercilessly eradicating Tenebrites. It made Corax and his men uneasy at times, but the pay was worth it, and they didn't face much risk in comparison.

"Sso, what do you think of the latesst reportss from the Imperialss?"
"I Don't think itss very good, but we certainly sstand to gain a lot during the preparationss."
"Thiss ssort of sspending issn't ssusstainable in the long run, thiss would require near constant expanssion of their economy for a long time, how would they manage that?"
"The DweMer are a bare shadow of what they were, the Imperials are likely looking to absorb them and then grow in that direction, after that, there's always up or down, the oceans are also a possibility, technology has been progressing at a frightening pace."
"They're your kind, you speak as if they aren't."
"Blood means nothing, it is culture, creed. How would you see the republic if born and raised in the Empire you were?"
"Point taken, you are right though, the DweMer were hit the hardest. We'll just need to stay strong, so we don't end up swallowed too."
"Honestly, we should make ourselves irreplaceable. The two different economic systems we and our overlords have would synergise quite well, if they can't function properly without us, they'll do everything they can to keep us around."
"That'ss a very good point, don't need to ressisst being conssumed if we're more valuable as a sstill sseparate entity."
"I'll get sstarted on a sseriess of planss right now."
