"Aye, kin give it a try. Footage reminds me of some ancient terran shite. I oughta try lookin fer a facility map too."
The lack of records was mildly frustrating, but Lemon was fully expecting the facility to be completely inoperable so it was a somewhat pleasant surprise. Searching for more information, Message logs, maps, passwords kept in notepad, etc., she wasn't gonna be picky. If it was available, she wanted to find it, green eyes flicking over the screen quickly.
"Hang on, is Faro tha name o' the company here? I wasna payin attention to that, where'd you see or hear that?"
Eresh was mostly listening as the group talked, keeping his attention on the hallway. When the felinid woman asked if the facility belonged to Faro, the Chozo then spoke up.
“Yes, that’s it’s name. Something of a disreputable group according to some circles. Seeing the state of this place.. I’m inclined to agree with them.”
As the mercenary would attempt to access the noted items, they would find a standard layout map of the main floor they were on, but little else. No further security footage remained, and it seemed that many safety systems had also been wiped. However, at the end of the hallway was a platform lift that was labeled for entry into the larger facility. While access to any maps of the lower levels wasn't available, they had that much information.
The lights flickered, leaving them in total darkness for a matter of seconds, before coming back up. Yet they were noticeably dimmer than before.
"Attention Site-Nineteen personal. Containment Breach on level twelve. Repeat, containment breach on level twelve. Please evaluate adjacent levels until mobile security units have recontained Subject C-One-Alpha."
The announcement repeated itself before suddenly going quiet. And then the lighting flickered again before silence resumed.
"There has to be more hidden inside. More than this terminal is capable of giving us. Shall we continue onwards?" Queen suggested, her eyes scanning the screen under her mask She had no idea who this 'Faro' company was or why they had an abandoned facility in the middle of space, or why this was her first mission...
Eresh flicked his eyes up at the lights as they flickered, and when the announcement played.. he grimaced behind his helmet. “Of course there is a breach, we got that memo already, thank you.” He said in the deadpan tone that only someone who has gone through an oddly similar situation could have.
When Queen suggested they explore deeper, he looked over his shoulder to the group, and her in particular. “That’s the idea, yes. But we are only doing this as a group. So, no splitting from the unit unless you absolutely know that a location is safe, and no unnecessary theatrics.”
"Right, well, lets see what man-made horrors beyond our comprehension lie below. Any o y'all got ideas? Formless flesh monster? Multi-dimensional Horror? Invisible Psychic Spiders? Hungry Man-Wolf Hybrid Cyborgs pumped full of secret combat drugs?"
Lemon was regretting signing up for this job, she'd dealt with evil corporate experimentation before, she needed to lay off the alcohol while job-hunting. Between the expense of Shrooms, and... Sobriety, she wasn't sure which would be preferable. Being Sober on the job was one thing, off the job was another.
"It wouldn't surprise me in the least if we encountered all of those demons. But I do know one thing: We won't figure anything out just standing here. Eventually we need to make some progress. If we move as a group, we need to go now while we still have our bearings."
The Phantom Thief folded her arms under her chest, shooting Eresh an annoyed look. "Try to stay focused, okay?"
“Could be genetically engineered nigh unkillable soul-sucking super predators, or mass produced dehumanized super soldiers. Or it could be homicidal clones of a man named Steve who are done being used as free corporate slave labor. Could be anything.” Eresh helpfully added, seemingly immune to the pouty death glare of the teenager.

"Let's hope Steve's open to diplomacy." Tycho let out a little rumble of a chuckle, rolling his eyes at all the imaginative suppositions. Playing along with the levity would do more good than harm, right now. Multi-dimensional flesh demons? Yeah, right. Sounded like horror-sim shit to him. Normally he'd outright write off everything they were saying as pure bullshit, but if his short time in the proper Federation had taught Tycho anything thus far? Far more was possible in the galaxy than he'd ever thought before. He'd just have to roll with it, and try not to die.
The Vlaka had held his position when the lights went out, snapping his attention back forward in the startled expectation of an ambush. His nerves slowly settled back down as the lights returned, and he slowly backed up to regroup with the others.
"I think we should link comms equipment before we go any further in, whether we move as a unit or not." Finally turning around to face them, for as much as turning away from the shadows made the fur on his neck stand up. Naturally, he couldn't smile... but for the sake of trying to keep laughing in the face of danger, his eyes were as bright as they could be. "Unless you three think the Invisible Psychic Spiders or Soul-Devouring Giga-Demons have active jammers."
Tycho's eyes would be met with a dead gaze, she hoped that the optimism was borne of competence and not naivete. "Right, lets be ready to kill, put enough plasma and lead in something and it'll eventually die. I have a couple flashbangs and smokes, if you have sensitivity problems I recommend using the proper protection."
Checking her weapons again to be sure they were loaded and ready, she started towards the lift and started fiddling with her radio. "Shortband will be useless underground, so I recommend Longwave. Recommend 250kHz, nice round number and probably no music stations in the system to interfere."
Queen didn't have any comms or grenades on her, but she did have her brass knuckles and revolver to defend herself. She really wished her friends were here. Joker would no doubt have a plan already set.
"I don't have any extended communication equipment or radios, so I'll have to stay close to one of you for now. Besides that, I think we'd want to stay united as much as possible, considering we have absolutley no idea of what we're dealing with."
“Sound advice all around. If there’s a specific frequency you both feel comfortable using, let me know. But for Queens sake, I’d also say just stay within casual conversation range if you can help it.” The Avian said as he rolled his shoulder and adjusted his grip on his rifle.
“Right, I’ll take point. Tycho, was it? Perhaps you should watch our six, keep the two smaller people in between us.”
Lighting flickered as they continued through the security station and toward the lift at the end of the hall. Dark streaks could be seen along the walls, some identifiable as human or similar color blood, others a more green-brown, and some yellowish.
Yet no sign of any actual lifeforms, no signs of sapients. Until the lift would open and reveal a grotesque splatter inside, flecks of carapace chitin, and smears of what looked like brain matter.
"Attention. Breach detected in level Seventeen. Access to Tchornobog is unsecured. Be advised, access to Tchornobog is unsecured."
Whatever they broke containment seemed to be moving now, fantastic. Biting back a sigh, Eresh would again look back at the others. “On the bright side, it looks like we might not have to wait all that long to see whatever was being held at this facility. It seems to be coming up towards us, slowly but surely.”
He would then shake his head.. and begin walking. “Stay close, and keep sharp everyone. With a little luck, we should be able to get a jump on.. whatever is down there. So stay behind me, watch my back, and we should be fine.”
Queen loaded her standard SSA Colt Revolver, bringing the weapon up close as she mentally steeled herself for what lay ahead. The brain matter and blood didn't really phase her, it was what lurked inside that had her slightly concerned, although she would never show it on her face. While she still wasn't too fond of her Metaverse armor, the mask did a good job of hiding her emotions.
"How horrible..." she muttered. "What or who could have done this?"
