Nothing out of place is detected on the Super-terrestrial world. Lifeforms are carbon based, featuring an atmosphere with high oxygen content approaching 30%. Large arthropods dominate the biosphere, along with flourishing biomes at the microscopic level.
The second world samples is significantly less evolved, although it still features abundant plant life. Lack of available surface water and colder temperatures tamper the surface biosphere, although no immediately problematic findings are discovered.
Findings: Roll 1: Multiple Iron/Nickel Asteroids. Roll 2: Carbonaceuous asteroids. Roll 3: Planetary system (4 rocky planets, 4 Surveyed), asteroid belt with multiple Iron/Nickel metallic bodies detected. Roll 4: Planetary system. (3 rocky planets, 2 primordial garden worlds, 2 gas giants, all surveyed), 2 asteroid belts.
Promising findings, Alan sure as hell wouldn't want to live on that 2g rock what with the giant bugs, but he was sure that some scientist types would think differently. Bjorn would definitely be offered a permanent position with him in any future expeditions like this, only a fool would let such a lucky bastard go without waving a fat paycheck in front of him. He mused a bit, he was definitely going to be staying out here if possible, but morale would suffer if the crew at large was forced to stay out here for a long time, he'd need to get replacement crew.
"I'll be getting you all back home, but I will be staying out here after getting replacement crew, anyone who wishes to stay with me with be dully compensated, I intend to negotiate some favorable deals with our customers. They'll need someone to exploit these new deposits, and I smell an opportunity."
He hailed the Stormcutter, it was time to bring the results in.
"Attention Sangheili vessel, we appreciate your protection and are now requesting coordinates for where we can rendezvous with your superiors, hand over the results of this expedition, and discuss potential further business arrangements."
"Understood. A representative can be dispatched to this system within the hour, a transmission will need to be sent alongside a copy of the preliminary findings you've collected. We will remain on station until they arrive." The response from the shipmaster was short and to the point, a databurst transmission sent to the Zaran expeditionary ships querying them for the requested information.

"Send them everything they want, they're the ones paying us afterall. To think that it'll only take an hour for them to get here, what I wouldn't give to be the one to secure that tech for us, I'd be famous."
He'd have to have his people hand over the physical samples when the representative arrived, but all the digital records were easily transmissible via coms. Looking down he realized that he should probably get in a proper business suit for the meeting rather than the casual wear he usually had on. He hoped that they weren't too stuffy, maybe the too the pointness and straight-shooting was in their blood, doing business with the sangheili might turn out to be the easiest job he's done, or it might amount to nothing beyond the payout from this bounty.
There was no immediate response to the captain's fairly naked ambition, the line going dead.
Minutes would pass in relative silence as the Stormcutter maintained its position near the Zaran exploratory ships, dragging on until nearly an hour had passed by. Only minutes left before that point, space would begin to roil blue white only a few hundred meters off the lead Zaran ship's bow, pinpricks expanding to accommodate the bulk of a Ket Ai-pattern battlecruiser as the almost two kilometer long ship slipped free of the higher dimension, static discharge crackling over the hull and shielding as it entered realspace. As it did so a new signal would be detected, hailing the Zaran ship.
"Alan... Merwic?" A voice would start, speaking slowly as the unfamiliar name left his mouth.
"This is Kaidon Set 'Chaura, speaking on behalf and with the authority of Arbiter 'Narai and the Sangheili Nation States. Your initial findings seem promising."

"Indeed Mr. Chaura, and we have many physical samples to deliver. Aside from the data and samples, I would also like to offer aid in extraction of said minerals on behalf of my employers back at Forge Mercantile. I will be honest and say that I smell money to be made here and would be a fool to let it pass without at least giving it a shot."
He looked at the progress reports for organizing the cargo on the freighter.
"We can either send the samples over to your vessel, or you can pick them up from the cargo hauler with one of your own shuttles, whichever you prefer since you're the customer."
Hopefully being blunt would work, their reputation implied that it would be better than flowery language and subtlety, no nonsense.
The line falls quiet at this, silence inscrutable. Whether deliberations are being made on the other end of the comm channel or the matter is simply being considered is impossible to tell, and after a long, quiet minute sound is finally heard again.
"I am.... uncertain as to whether or not you're aware of this, but we do not trade or make use of the Federation's currency in our dealings. We lack the means to pay for such services over a prolonged period of time or on large scale. Our primary export is our State's military prowess. We understand that is of limited use to some which was why we made exceptions to our foreign policy to allow for trade in technologies. Such transactions are ill suited to prolonged contracts."

Merwic "Hmmmed" to himself as he considered the rather confusing answer, there had to be something they had that they would be willing to trade for.
"Well, there has to be something more to your people than soldiers and ships. If you aren't keen to trade technologies, what of luxuries, foods, cultural curiosities? There's a lot of money to be made with licensing of literature and other forms of entertainment. I'm willing to bet that there's a market for virtually anything, especially things that can't simply be fabricated. Organic materials, fabrics, foods, livestock, etcetera. Forge Mercantile may specialize in industry, but our subsidiaries touch on nearly all things."
Lack of a common currency would be mildly bothersome, but Barter was not out of the question, especially if it could eventually lead to exchange via currency later on after commonality was established and values were agreed upon.
"Your not dealing in Federation currency is not an issue that can't be worked around, the empire uses it's own currency still, and we are open to direct exchange of goods and services, we can make money by reselling to the empire or federation. Regardless of the result of further business dealings, the Surveyor Corps will be glad to continue renewing current contracts."
The cultural merchandise of the sangheili would more than qualify as "exotic", judging from Mr. Chaura's reply they hadn't even considered export of such things as a possibility, they could corner the market outside the nationstates with one smart and lucky move.
Silence again falls on the Sangheili end of the transmission as Merwic begins to speak again, and when the Kaidon's voice returns it is... conversational, albeit brusque. To the point.
"Tell me what you hope to achieve through these negotiations, specifically, and what you hope to see in payment for the service offered. I am in a position to tell you what we are prepared to exchange from there. We were expecting to mine and process the located resources ourselves so close to our territories but I will consider what is offered."

"Well, at least with regards to this particular venture and payment thereof, do you have any shipments of fine spirits or other recreational substances or art? They could likely be auctioned off back home for quite a deal. As for future arrangements, I suppose that should probably wait for a more official representative of my corporation and possibly government. The goal is simple, fostering positive relations and lucrative trade."
He realized that he was quickly getting to the point where his own authority to represent the interests of his employers ended, and he suspected that the commander of the ship ahead of him would be in a similar situation, at least he had put the idea out there to be considered, his wealth was assured if this led to productive agreements.
"That.... can be arranged, yes. The latter in particular should be readily available and easily supplied. Regarding the negotiations of future arrangements, how quickly can such representatives be made available, be it in person or through secure transmission?"

"Well, it will likely depend on Galactic Railways, but It should take no more than a couple weeks. Even if I were to be lucky enough to earn a Field Promotion I lack specialized personnel for negotiations or arranging trade agreements."
Alan cursed his own adherence to protocol, but he knew that if he went above his pay grade and tried to sign a deal beyond arranging for future negotiations he'd be tossed out on his ass and fined into pauperdom. He would be pushing hard to be reassigned to be the official negotiator, but he had to be patient for now.
"Understood. Ships will be deployed to secure this system along with a vessel carrying your payment within the next Solar day, and your escort will see to your safe transit to wherever your next destination may be, unless you feel it is not needed. I can be contacted through either method once the appropriate representatives are ready and waiting to negotiate. In the meantime a Phantom will be sent to collect the samples you secured."

Newly Promoted Head of Sangheili Commercial Negotiations Alan Merwic stood nervously at the meeting table as he waited for the representatives of the Nationstates to arrive. The source of his anxiety, the observers from the imperial military, church, and one of the emperor's personal guard, loomed over on one side of the office. He was expecting a representative from the Ministry of Prosperity to be present, but not one of the emperor's many right hands. He had to admit that he was rather out of his depth, he checked his tablet to ensure that the room's automatic translation system was properly loaded and synced with his earbuds and everyone else in the room. ----- The Station itself was a frantic frenzy of activity, being the processing point for all travel between the empire and everywhere else it had grown to rival even the Twins and boasted a small permanent population dedicated to servicing those passing through. It resembled the great warrens of most imperial cities, a massive cylinder with radiating spokes leading to docking bays, hangars, and massive hydroponic facilities. The exterior painted with a glittering chrome contrasted with the more utilitarian interior with coloured lines and directions guiding traffic. The central Cylinder played host to the commercial district, and the now famous Gateway Bazaar, filled with a riot of colour as people from both within and without the empire hawked their wares. Groups of travelers could be seen following guides providing instruction and direction to various offices, points of interest, or exhibits.
Among the many ships clustered in the space immediately around the Cylinder, one stood out as unique - a nearly two kilometer long vessel, organic in shape but metallic chrome in color. The same Ket Ai-pattern battlecruiser that had met the Zaran exploratory group nearly two weeks previous near the Sangheili borders, a pair of much smaller ships could be seen leaving the cruiser's docking bays and making for those of the Zaran space station. Approaching the directed hangers, the Phantoms would pivot and set down as the hatches on either side of the crafts lowered into boarding ramps.
Standing center of the group and clad in the worn bronze and silver ceremonial harness of his station, Kaidon Set 'Chaura would step off of the craft and onto the deck of the station, flanked on either side by Sangheili wearing far more modern and sleek combat harnesses, crimson with splashes of white.
