Located in the outer rim reaches of the Andromeda Galaxy, Avo has remained isolated from the rest of the galaxy long enough to have avoided notice from the imperialistic Machine Empire of Great Andromeda. It was only relatively recent that the planet was located by Galaxy Railways and efforts extended to add this far flung world to the track network. Despite this, Avo has been aware of other worlds and peoples for quite some time due to a history of trans-planar portals and visitations.
AT A GLANCE
Avo is perhaps a simpler world, but one rich in magic, even if those who populate it have lost sight of that power. An industrial age state of development has been progressing for approximately the last century in the region known as Albion, slowly filtering to other parts of the world as it develops. At a first glance, the primary sapient species would seem to be some variation of humans, though there is evidence of refugees from nearby systems having arrived in recent decades and attempted to assimilate into Avo culture.
UNIQUE FEATURES
The developmental stage of Avo is what many would consider to be "industrial revolution". The beginnings of internal-combustion engines based on fossil fuels, steam, and geothermal have been rooted for perhaps a hundred years so far, advancing rapidly within the last fifty years. Once was Avo a world rich in magic, and some regions still know these secrets, but others have let themselves slide away from the mystical ways in favor of evolving technology. The primary sapient species considered to be dominant is humans, though there are also the lycanthope Balverines and the goblin-like Hobbes. A variety of religions do exist on Avo, including the Church of Avo, named for a benevolent deity that shares name with the world, the Temple of Skorm, a malevolent being which aspects toward murder, unwanton violence, and chaotic evil, and a plethora of other minor deities. In terms of politics, Albion, perhaps the most powerful nation, is ruled by a monarchy from the capitol of Bowerstone. The current king of Albion is Logan, eldest son of the last great Hero of the region, who is known in the past to be impassioned for his desire to better his nation and protect his people, yet seems to stepping in the course of tyranny since a journey to the Aurora regions four years ago.
OTHER INFO
It has been within the last few decades that refugees from Toril managed to make their way in self-guided Spelljammer vessels to Avo. While these refugees were certainly the first to make contact via interstellar methods, Avo has been no stranger to beings of other worlds and planes. The arrival of Galaxy Railways in recent years furthered their exposure to the greater universe, and while they have yet to make any major leaps in technological development, the people of Avo are not ignorant to their neighbors and the galaxy around them. There is a trio of Galaxy Railway stations on Avo; one located between Bowerstone and Brightwall in Albion, a minor service point in Aurora, and one in the Eastern Kingdoms.
