Sol-Daiban, Outer Right Cluster of the Cygnus Arm
AT A GLANCE
A mostly White world speckled with Green and Teal, Unity is the capitol of the Zaran Empire. It is a world of Ice, Steel, Volcanoes, and Possibly Carnivorous Plants.
Unity is one of the moons of a Purple Jupiter-sized Gas Giant (The All-Father) and has two suns, A K-class main sequence and a closely orbiting M-class Red Dwarf. The All-Father's Rings are comparable to Uranus', and are mostly composed of Ice and Rock.
Most of the surface (around 60%) is encased in ice and ash, with an almost constant haze of ash from volcanic activity, with the remaining 40% being split evenly between sprawling urban-industrial centers and untamed, magically chaotic, jungle. The laws are strict but fair, the people hardworking and healthy, the boots of soldiers can be heard everywhere, and military installations loom above the clouds.
UNIQUE FEATURES
Due to cataclysmic events in the ancient past, Unity is subject to a great deal of magical instability; energy from the Aetherstream leaks into the environment and causes rapid mutations among wildlife and creates pockets of warmth filled with rapidly (sometimes visibly) growing vegetation and aggressive predators. Over the past 1200 years, Unity's Volcanic activity rose sharply, thus causing the majority of the world to be encased in ice as the ash blotted out the suns. The Global average is around -30C, and varies from -100C in the colder portions to 35C in the hottest areas (these being the areas of extreme Wild Magic fallout). Due to the majority of the surface being either too cold or too dangerous, many cities and all farming is located underground in massive networks of tunnels and caverns both natural and artificial.
Unlike the majority of Sol-Daiban, The Zaran Empire uses magitech and this is readily apparent on Unity where it is in constant use combating the hostile environment and accelerating the growth of essential crops.
The current inhabitants of Unity's Surface and the immediate area beneath are descended from natives of Toril who ended up coming to Unity 3,500 years ago via Spatial rifts caused by the above mentioned cataclysm. Every Torillian Race is present upon Unity, though their culture is radically different from those of their origin, the only nation is The Zaran Empire having brought the world together via conquest and diplomacy. There are Elves, Gnomes, Dwarves, Humans, Lizardmen, Halflings, Orcs, Goblins, Tieflings, as well as every other Torillian race and countless hybrids and even some with such mixed ancestry that it's hard to tell.
The World's Subterranean depths are home to the descendants of those who lived upon unity before the cataclysm, the ones who saw disaster coming and escaped underground to stay safe. These Subterraneans have highly advanced technologies related to energy production and manipulation, able to hold off Imperial advances within their territory, but are unable to withstand the relentless bombardment that awaits them should they emerge from their dark world.
The four biggest industries on Unity are Mining, Military Logistics, Ship Building, and Raw Materials Production, and these are mostly under the control of the government along with Education, Infrastructure, Banking, and all the usual things. The Private Sector mostly covers Services, Luxuries, and Finance.
The government operates as a theocratic meritocracy, and the educational system stresses the importance of competence, teamwork, and a good work ethic; the local religion centers around the worship of Order as the ultimate means for ensuring prosperity and unlike most religions it doesn't have anything to do with an afterlife instead leaving that to individuals, in this way many imperials effectively follow two faiths: the imperial faith in life and various other faiths in the afterlife.
A second legitimate government also exists in the form of the Republic of the Scale, officially allies though unofficially just another part of the empire, the RotS is a primarily capitalist and democratic society that operates within imperial territory and contributes to the Imperial military.
Slavery exists as a form of capital punishment, an alternative to the death sentence that convicts may choose. The convicted individual is psychologically modified via magic and mundane conditioning to be incapable of breaking Imperial Law voluntarily and relocated to avoid further persecution by victims/family.
Advisory: Local Laws, while easy to understand, are enforced religiously, breaches are punished severely all the more-so because those caught are seen as not just criminals but incompetent criminals. The world is also in a constant state of conflict as Imperial forces war against the Subterraneans and the Torillians who join them in their tenebral kingdoms
OTHER INFO
This is the homeworld of The Zaran Empire, and is home to the majority of the empire's military forces. The Shipyards are relatively primitive, as The Empire only achieved FTL flight 150 years ago.
The Zarans are in a mild state of shock at the sudden realization that they're effectively helpless children in the galactic community, this'll fade as time passes, but right now there are varying attitudes towards foreigners with anything from "they're fucking cool" to "oh god, we're all gonna die" or even "we should just crush them and then do what we always do, assimilate".
