Ash'kar Be-hek
"H'adar sen ol'men!"
About the Character
Franchise This Character is From || Metroid(Metroid Dread)
How Much Experience Do You Have With Character/Franchise? || My experience with Raven Beak is about the same as anyone else, given the recent introduction of the character, and I have been on and off with the Metroid franchise since childhood, though not quite as much of a nerd about it as some might be.
Why Would This Character Be A Good Fit For Our Site? || I think there is a lot of potential for additional plot hooks in various arcs, both for the site and for individual PCs, and he's already part of an existing incorporated IP, so minimal, if any, changes can be made for him to fit into the story.
Alignment/Faction || Lawful Neutral/Unaffiliated(his own faction)
The Abilities
Ash'kar was the product of selective breeding within the Mawkin Tribe, seeking to recreate the might of the Ancients, and received a number of augmentations while still an egg, with further procedures performed in his adolescence and upon maturation into a fully-trained warrior. These procedures not only increased his natural growth, granting him his imposing size, but increased his speed and strength well beyond what any Avia-Ra or Chozo has possessed since the days of the Chozo Ancients, enabling him to contend with foes in augmentive power armor with relative ease. Additionally, he makes use of a wide variety of Aeion abilities, and possesses formidable technological assets compared to most other factions within the SDG, and in particular, the Orion Spur.
In your own words
Explain Your Character || Ash'kar Be-hek, also known as Raven Beak, is a clan leader within the Mawkin Tribe, of the Chozo within the Ym'k'ru Dwarf Galaxy known as the Avia-Ra, who was sent into exile for the crime of apostacy. His creed, "H'adar sen ol'men," roughly translates to "Power is everything," though this is not as simplistic a meaning as it might seem. Rather, it is the philosophy that without power, you are nothing, and eschews the reliance on the god of the Avia-Ra in favor of self-reliance. Prior to his exile, Ash'kar was a fleetmaster, and had gained fame(or infamy, depending on who you ask) during the Night Crusade. At the Battle of Alden'val, Ash'kar openly questioned whether the Sun Above was truly worthy of the veneration his people had given it, and by the time the Treaty Black was signed, a small but vocal movement had formed, rejecting the worship of the Sun Above in favor of forging their own path. Because of his status as fleetmaster, the ruling council of the Avia-Ra could not have Ash'kar executed, as was the norm for apostacy, and so instead exiled him and all that had followed him into exile beyond the edges of their galaxy, ostensibly to find repentance, though in truth, it was done as a form of indirect execution. However, though nearly a third of those sent into exile with him perished before reaching the Sol-Daiban Galaxy, those that remained settled on Ili Tarin Nalima, bearing the basic Galactic Federation designation of ZDR. Here, he established several settlements, with a goal to rebuilding a stellar empire bereft of the dogma that blinded his brethren in his native galaxy. As an individual, Ash'kar is cunning and ruthless in battle, yet he is not without compassion. In the perilous journey from Avia-Ra space, he observed many potential threats to both his own people, as well as to any that might exist near wherever it might be that they finally settled, and resolved to not allow the same weakness that brought shame to the Avia-Ra Empire come to any within his dominion, nor those of any allies he might find.
Will Your Portrayal Deviate From Canon? || In canon, Raven Beak's backstory clashes with existing established lore, from the destruction of the Thoha Tribe on SR388 to the genetic infusions given to Samus Aran, and what does not is largely left unsaid by canon sources. As such, much of his history is of my creation, though his general personality remains largely unchanged.
Why Do You Love This Character? || Ash'kar holds a great deal of potential as a character, and delving into the reasons why he holds the views he does, and how it might impact events seems to me very interesting. In general, I enjoy adding depth to seemingly 2-dimensional characters, and Ash'kar fits the bill to a T.

Gleaming crimson orbs stared impassively out across the westerning sun as Ash'kar Be'hek, the once-proud fleetmaster of the Avia-Ra, admired in his own way the beauty of the sunset. Reports remained on his datapad to be read, yet for now, he remained in deep contemplation. Much had changed in his life, he mused, and with a taloned finger, he calmly tapped a sigil on the chair in which he sat. "Play last viewed file," he chirped in his vaguely musical tongue. With that command, the chamber went dark, only to be illuminated with light of another kind, a fully rendered holographic projection. Here was where it had all begun, he thought as the simulated floor trembled beneath his feet. Despite being only a projection, Ash'kar couldn't help but for his heart to quicken.
"Status!" his own voice called out tersely as an image of himself stared out across the flak-filled void towards the impossibly massive tree-ship that had attacked.
"Shields failing, and we're reporting multiple power surges in engineering!" a tech answered dutifully, if fearfully. That shouldn't have been possible. He knew the capabilities of the elves, and though they were formidable, there was nothing within their arsenal that was capable of damaging the Nabiun the way those attacks had.
"Explain! Those heretical backsta-" Ash'kar shuddered involuntarily at the memory as countless vessels shimmered into existence. Not the living tree-ships of the elves, but lifeless machines, hidden amid to debris of battle, masking their treachery.
Any further thoughts were cut short by the warning alarms signaling hull breaches.
"Fleetmaster, we're being boarded, and shields are disabled!" the tech cried, managing to stay at his station only through the discipline instilled into him by his training.
This was the day Ash'kar had first truly begun to doubt the protective might of Old Un. He could not protect the Avia-Ra, and the Avia-Ra should never have relied on another to preserve their mortal existence within the galaxy, he thought bitterly. He'd ordered an emergency jump, and his elite had slaughtered the trespassers to a one, but the Nabiun had been crippled severely. It was never again to operate at full strength for the remainder of the Night Crusade.

"Pause memory," Ash'kar ordered as he rose from the throne-like seat he'd been resting in, then began to pace about before glancing down at the latest reports from the deep space probes that had been sent out. Curious, he mused as he took in the new data. It seemed as if he was not the first of his people to settle in this galaxy. He wondered if they were themselves descendants of exiles that had been sent away centuries before, or if perhaps explorers that had forged out into the empty void of their own free will. He'd need to make preparations soon, to seek these "Chozo" out. A curious name, he thought. One that lingered in his mind like a memory long-forgotten, feeling far too much like faith for his comfort. Would they even welcome his arrival? The Avia-Ra shrugged inwardly as he reflected on how he'd arrived on the world his kinsmen were even now building upon...
15 years prior.
"The Nabiun suffered grievous damage because of your incompetence and doubt," declared one aging Avia-Ra, Apophos Set by name, jutting a bony taloned finger accusingly towards Ash'kar. "How can we trust you to lead our people to victory after losing the pride of our fleet to--"
"With respect, Eminence, the losses at Alden'val were not the result of any lack on the part of any of our people, myself included," Ash'kar cut in with barely contained venom. "The enemy acquired additional allies that we were unaware of even being capable, and we were caught by surpise. Tell me, did any of you foresee the rise of the vect as a military power? Did Old Un grant any of us visions forewarning us?" he demanded.
"Tread carefully, Fleetmaster," a second council member warned. "Your words dance dangerously close to heresy. Are you blaming our god for your failings?"
"No," the agitated warrior answered icily. "I blame our reliance on a being that has been silent for nearly a thousand years. It is our weakness in this reliance that allowed--"
"You dare?!" squawked several council members, though Apophos merely sat in silence, his almost serene gaze boring into Ash'kar as the fleetmaster's feathers ruffled.
"I do. I have led our fleets now for a century, and never once has victory truly been won but by our own might. I refuse to cower in the shadow of a 'god' that will not so much as speak to us. I have given my report. Do with it as you wish!"
Silence fell on the chamber for an agonizing eternity, until at last, Apophos stood, then let out a weary sigh. "Very well. I had hoped it would not come to this, but this most recent revelation leaves me with little choice. Ash'kar Be-hek of the Mawkin Tribe, for the crime of apostacy, you are hereby sentenced to exile for no less time than 100 standard cycles, under pain of death. This galaxy will no longer be your home until that time and you have repented of this most grievous sin. You are to be stripped of rank and title beyond what your own tribe will recognize. Those that do are also to join you in exile. May Old Un find it that you are worthy of his mercy," he intoned. "Guards, collect the sunstaff of the condemned and escort him to his tribal home to gather what he will take into exile."
Present day.
Ash'kar recalled the bitter rage he'd felt those first few days, yet he never once considered recanting. Old Un might exist, but the entity had failed to provide, despite unrelenting loyalty. The service, it seemed to the Avia-Ra, was purely one-sided, and Ash'kar for one was not willing to be a part of such an arrangement. Again he sighed, then began to read the reports in depth. Ili Ta'rin Na-lima. It sounded very much like a dialect of his own tongue.
"Ira, have the Itorash readied for departure," he ordered over the comms system recently established on the newly settled world. "We may have brothers in this galaxy, and possibly allies."
Writing Example three
The clack of talons on polished stone echoed in the vast chambers as Ash'kar made his way through what had clearly once been an impressive robotics lab. Soon, the tech specialists of his tribe would be arriving to begin researching the facility's capacities, but for now, the Mawkin leader was alone, and he found himself experiencing a curious mix of emotions. Those that had once lived on Ili Ta'rin Na-lima had not been so different from his own people, and the xenobiologists that had examined the remains interred had informed Ash'kar that it was a near-certainty that these "Chozo" were in fact Avia-Ra, or else the Avia-Ra were Chozo that had become separated from the main population. Such questions would never have been allowed the depth of consideration they deserved under the empire's rule, he knew. Such thought could call into question the tenets of the faith by which the majority of his people remained blinded.
"My Lord, you wished to be informed of any new discoveries of note," a young Mawkin called as he rushed hurriedly after the much taller warrior. Ash'kar chuffed softly, amused at the eagerness of youth, then turned to face the messenger fully.
"Yes, what news?" he questioned calmly, electing to treat the younger Mawkin with the dignity of a soldier, as he warranted.
"We've uncovered the locations of other Chozo worlds. Several appear to still be populated. The largest appears to be called Zebes, near the outer belt of this galaxy. The coordinates are right here, my Lord," he answered, handing Ash'kar a datapad containing galactic coordinates well within the interior of their new home galaxy.
"You have done well. I presume the communications towers onworld are still being repaired?" the warrior leader pressed.
"They are, my Lord."
"Very well. I shall return to the Itorash to contact these brothers of ours. Inform Aten of this. You are dismissed."
