May 2023 It's been hectic this last year, but we are alive and celebrating our fifth year of adventure and tales. A lot has been worked on to help make the Monoverse one that everyone can enjoy and explore their story while becoming a part of the greater cosmos. All of you, new and long time players, stay safe, and see you in the Sea of Stars!
Ash'kar rolled his shoulders as he set the supply chest he'd been carrying onto his ship, then turned to the older Mawkin walking beside him, chuffing quietly as he clasped the other's shoulder.
"You are decided in this course, then?" A'ten all but sighed. "Is this truly the best course for us all? In five years, we have suffered only one attack from these Kromus."
"I am decided. We need allies, old friend, and without those, the next incursion could come in greater numbers. We will not be numerous enough to drive off a true army for some years, you know this, A'ten. You needn't act as though I am never to return, though. Our distant-brothers, these Chozo, are well-regarded coreward, and Maru feels confident that we can find what we require."
"Through this Aran child? She is not Avia-Ra, though, nor Chozo. By all accounts, she is not so different from the elves before our ancestors tried to help them! How can she be trusted?" A'ten questioned dubiously.
"I have learned what I have been able to from Maru and the files he has shared regarding the peoples of the Federation. Humans are the backbone of their fleets and armies. They are warriors, and honorable, if we have not all been deceived. I trust Maru's word and judgement. Do you trust mine?"
"..I hate it when you do that. Very well, my friend. I take it you mean to contact her before departure?"
"I do," Ash'kar confirmed, smiling as his beak allowed. "Though I suspect she may not reply before I am underway."
"I should think not. That was the last of the supplies you requested. How long do you anticipate being away, should all go well?" the tribal elder asked.
"If the map is accurate, a few months, if only for the sheer distances involved. Urs seems particularly far. I plan to meet with Samus Aran and the Federation's chairman, Kea'ton, on Daiban, first. Terra or Reach seems the next logical step, to meet with the humans directly, and then I aim to meet with the Sangheili's Arbiter. I should warn you now, it is entirely possible that the future may bring to us a relocation to a more secure world, where our allies may more readily come to our aid."
"You know the people will not like such a future."
"Yes, I do. But before we are warriors, we are survivors. We will do what we must, however little we may enjoy it."
"True enough," A'ten conceded as he reached up to clasp the former fleetmaster's shoulder. "For tribe and clan."
"For nest and home," Ask'kar answered before loosening his grip as A'ten likewise did the same and made his way out from the Itorash.
The towering avian stood in silence for several long moments, then made his way to the ship's comms station and keyed in the frequency Maru had given him hours before. A more passive man might have waited a day, taking so long to prepare for departure, yet Ash'kar was a military commander with little in the way of work to do beyond scouting out the frontiers of their new home. He both craved and needed to be out among the stars, if only for a time. He cared deeply for his clan and family, after all, but this once, they would be better served by staying until the paths were tested. With only the briefest of pauses, Ash'kar began to transmit, wholly unaware of the danger the young woman would be soon venturing into herself.
"I greet you, Samus Aran, daughter of Maru. I am Ash'kar Be-hek, commander of the warriors of the Mawkin tribe. We call our kind the Avia-Ra, though we have learned that we might be known to your people as Chozo. I call upon you because our home lies beyond the reaches of the major population centers of this galaxy, and the Zebesian Nest is going into hiding for a time. Maru did not tell me where he and his nest-mates might be seeking refuge, but it means that my own Nest no longer has eyes and ears beyond our world, and thus we are in need of allies to aid us should these Kromus find us once more. Samus Aran, I am asking on behalf of your father, my people need your help, however you may be able to provide it. Meet me on the world of Daiban when you are able, and send word of when you expect to reach it. I expect that this message will not reach you until I have jumped coreward, but you should be able to contact me on this frequency easily enough. Until then, Miss Aran."
Ash'kar ended the transmission then, though he kept receiving open, in a way leaving the channel open, in the event he'd misjudged latency times, and moved to sit in the command chair to guide the 90 meter-long yacht into the empty void beyond Ili Tarin Nalima's atmosphere and start the journey to the heart of the Galactic Federation.

Several weeks later..
Ash'kar blinked slowly as he stirred from his stasis, then began to stretch his limbs before clambering out of the stasis chamber. Though his body didn't technically feel the effects of time while in stasis, he always felt like he'd slept a few more hours than he should have whenever he first came out of stasis. A gentle chime alerted him to more pressing matters, and the Mawkin military leader strode easily to the command chair to examine the nature of the alert. Arrival imminent? Then the first leg of his journey was about to enter its second phase. Entering in a swift series of commands, Ash'kar brought the Itorash out of Slipspace, finally looking upon the capital world of Daiban for the first time. In truth, he held mixed feelings about it. Certainly, it was impressive as an engineering achievement, but it appeared to lack any wilds, no true hunting grounds but for the variety the urban sprawl afforded. There was little time to muse upon such frivolities, however, and as he brought the yacht on an approach vector, he opened a channel to what he presumed was the planetary control network.
"This is Itorash, Ash'kar Be-hek speaking. Please confirm, this is the proper channel to acquire landing clearance, yes?" he questioned, not yet speaking of his purpose for coming, in part because he wasn't completely certain he was on the proper channel.
Fortune for the Avia-ra military commander as the virtual intelligence that managed in-system communications for the Al'kya system, and Daiban in particular, would recognize keywords in what was reading to their language archives as Chozia.
"Ak'kya system flight control responding to private vessel Itorash. Our automated systems have identified your spoken language as Chozia. Please identify your purpose for arrival at the Federation Capitol and transmit your identification codes for recognition archive. Once this is complete, you will be met by an in-system escort courtesy of the Galactic Federation Police and Daiban system defense to a designated landing zone. Further inquiry as to your visit shall be conducted at that time. Do not deviate from the now transmitted flight path, or your intentions will be assumed as hostile."

Ash'kar gave a low whistle as he calmly transmitted the identification codes of his vessel, though he wasn't entirely certain how much they'd be able to make sense of Avia-Ra script. Perhaps there was enough similarities to Chozia that the controllers would be able to translate it readily enough, he mused.
"My purpose is to seek audience with the leadership of the Galactic Federation as the official envoy of the Mawkin tribe of Ili Tarin Nalima, with the intention of establishing formal diplomatic ties. It is anticipated that this world and my people are not known to you, but suffice it to say that our Nest World is beyond Galactic Federation borders. I was informed by the Zebesian Nest that this would not likely be a matter of great concern for initial contact. However, I am willing to provide basic information as requested at this time if it will secure a formal meeting with the appropriate parties," he replied calmly as he noted the flight path being transmitted to his display, and moved to fall in line with the designated path. "On a somewhat unrelated note..how tall are the ceilings in most buildings on Daiban?"
"The Office of Stellar Relations has been notified of your outreach for First Contact communications, Ash'kar Be-hek. You will be escorted to a secure landing zone in the Capitol district for meeting with an adjacent staff of the Office and further discussion for further contact." A pause as the VI noted a term that flagged in its system as an immediate forward to the Chairman's office. "My database is unfamiliar with what you call a 'Zebesian Nest', however. As to your structural design query, many public and primary state office complexes are built with the heights of species that can stand over four meters taken into consideration. Further questions can be answered by your escorts and the Office of Stellar Relations. Welcome to Daiban, Ash'kar Be-hek."

Well, that was a relief, Ash'kar mused. He had difficulty navigating structures in his native dwarf galaxy that were not made with the Avia-Ra in mind, especially elven ships, so to be informed he would not suffer the indignity of striking his head on the ceiling was welcome news.
"Very well. Your assistance has been of great help," he answered, sensing the end of this particular conversation, then settled into his command chair to focus on keeping to the designated flight path. As he descended, Ash'kar marveled silently at the sheer vastness of the ecumenopolis. He'd read of Daiban, and even heard of city-worlds before, but he had never before laid eyes on one. How did such a planet sustain itself, he wondered. And what manner of hunting could ever be found in this most chaotic of ecologies?
Despite the mention of inquires being directed to his escorts, the Mawkin commander did not pose any questions at any point during the descent, instead focusing on mentally preparing himself to be his tribe's representative, ready to acquire much-needed allies within the Orion Spur.
