“No replies of any kind?”
Eresh was now slowly lumbering to his feet, crouching slightly to avoid bumping his head on the more lower hanging grip bars on the wall of the gunship. That was very out of character for the Sangheli, if there was some sort of technical hiccup with their escort they would surely been contacted and informed of possible delays, along with a revised rendezvous schedule. It was possible that they were having communication difficulties.. but something made him doubt that was the case.
No, something definitely had gone awry: the question now was how awry the situation really was. Kneeling behind Samus’ chair and being careful not to encroach too much into Tycho’s personal space he would take a look at her display, one hand on her chair.
“Are there any irregularities showing up on the Thrush’s sensors? False positives, inexplicable ghost contacts?”
Jump completed without incident. Three planets detected. One frozen and largely ice, two rocky silicate worlds with trace deposits of Iron.
Findings:
Roll 1: A handful of carbonaceous asteroids. Two frozen worlds of ice and silicate oxides with minimal mineral value. Roll 2: Four rocky planets around a red dwarf star. Trace deposits of Nickel and Iron on two of the four. Roll 3: Three worlds. One frozen, two rocky worlds with trace Iron deposits.

"Nothing. Just more ice and dust."
Tycho's ears slowly crept backward, nearly flattened against his head. Somehow the relatively uninteresting data they were collecting added to the rapidly-mounting sense of something being wrong-- there was nothing out there. No anomalies, no ghost-contacts, no strange signals. Just silence.
He passed the datapad up over his shoulder to Eresh for the Mawkin to see for himself, taking a look back at the feed through his own cyberware. Same thing, as he could see, through the glitchy garble. Nothing at all.
"... Is it like the Sangheili to be late? We not worth the time, or something?"

Her blue-green eyes narrowed, even before Tycho voiced his concerns. "No, they're usually punctual as hell, and don't sluff when they say they're going to be there." A few keys were tapped as she prepared a quick message for Urs along with the planet data obtained so far. "I'm going to let them know we still haven't see our escorts and then make way for the next way point." A few more entries before executing the transmission of her new data, and then Samus evaluated the charts they had for their next point within the W51 Cloud. "Should be a quick jump to the next system, and if we still aren't seeing anything, I'm going to radio into Urs that it's basically dead out here."
The calculations for their slipstream jump finished, leaving Samus to once again touch the crystalline sphere controlling the flux drive and sending them streaking back into the hyperealm.

“We definitely should log an official complaint at their tardiness, rather poor form if I do say so.” Eresh said as he then sat back a bit on his haunches. While he was mostly joking, the irritation of these Sangheli apparently shirking their duties or whatever they were doing was quite apparent. Eresh wasn’t against taking things easy, but when it came to being on a job, he expected all those involved to take the assignment seriously. Not so seriously that a bit of levity was out of the question when appropriate.. but he had a great deal of respect for those who showed proper professionalism.
Jump completed without incident. Two frozen planets detected, along with an asteroid belt ringing the system with nickel and iron rich deposits detected. On jumping in system, however, a second sensor ping would echo their own, an artificial object moving through the asteroid belt.

Tycho's mind poured over the last of the third jump's data with minute contempt. With his nerves as tense as they were, a relative lack of meaningful results this far was just starting to irritate him. He wouldn't dare test the idea of wondering what else could go wrong today, even if that's where his heart was starting to be.
When the Thrush jumped into that fourth system, the Vlaka idly tapped the claws of his thumb and trigger-finger together, anticipating the incoming data from the probe with the same contemptuous frustration.
He sat up suddenly, eyes staring blankly into the middle distance, his perception focused on his mind's eye. The Vlaka hesitated for a moment, double-checking what he was looking at between his own mental feed and that of the datapad.
"M-types," he breathed. "Whole belt of them, looks like. I-"
Tycho cut himself off, leaning forward, resting his elbows on his knees and narrowing his eyes. Just as his ears had perked high, they were just as quickly flat against his head. His tone was cautious, but cold.
"Contact-- artificial object. Moving. Bearing two-seven-zero by negative three-six, inside the belt. Echoed our ping."

Eresh would sit up a little more as he heard that, tilting his head. Artificial object? Well that was definitely more interesting than these barely useful asteroids and planetoids they had been finding thus far.
“How much do you want to wager that this is our escort? I highly doubt it personally to be honest… But stranger things have happened.” He said as he tried to be conversational.. but his eyes would linger on the read outs.
“Well Samus, what do you think? Should we risk trying to make contact with it?”

I CAN'T HEAR THE STARS ANYMORE... BUT THE VOICE SPEAKS TO ME IN THE DARK…
Her eyes shifted toward her companions before Samus recentered on the front viewport of the Thrush. They were deep into the W51 cloud by now, nearing the region inside of it that housed a stellar nursery. Who else, she pondered, would be out here? Kromus, maybe…pirates possible. But still…
"Switching to shroud," she stated as she tapped at the projected holo console. A few moments later, a low red light filled the cabin, indicating that the ship's sensory cloak was active. It may be paranoia, but after all Samus had been through, especially in the last few months, paranoia kept her alive. "Eresh, see if you can get any better readings off whatever it is, I'll try and get the probe near it and see how they react."

“Calibrating now,” Eresh said as he took a seat and got to work, taking a look at the previous readings while waiting for the probe to get into position. From what the contact returns indicated there was only one object, but it didn’t hurt to check again to be sure.
“Well on the bright side I was right, this mission has gotten more interesting.”
He then frowned.. waving off another couple intrusive thoughts. Now.. what exactly was out there?

"Course is steady, they're not adjusting yet. Wonder if they're just here for the rocks, same as us..."
Tycho kept a somewhat-literal eye on the moving object, though he could only really do it through the lens of scrolling telemetry data. He sat up as the lighting in the cabin changed, eyeing the console in front of him after feeling his left eye twitch.
"You got something I can man? Countermeasures, or a PDC or something? Don't wanna just be sitting here watching numbers if we get into a fight..."
I CAN'T HEAR THE STARS ANYMORE... BUT THE VOICE SPEAKS TO ME IN THE DARK…
As she bit her lip, Samus would carefully move them toward the still unknown object. Fine time for whatever was going on with their supposed escort. The probe itself was moving toward the object as well, but unlike the Thrush, it didn't have a way to hide itself from sensory detection. And if something happened to it. She only had one spare.
"Most systems are centralized in the main cockpit, the Thrush is a gunship, not a science vessel." She wasn't trying to be mean, but there wasn't normally much for passengers to do on her small ship. "Just sit tight for a bit while we figure this out and send our update to Sanghelios."
Hopefully, that update might get their escorts finally out here.
Sensor pings would return readings of a ship, neither Kromus nor of commercial make - but rather, a centuries old design, smooth nanolaminate hull and almost aquatic curvature hinting at modern Sangheili designs not unlike that of their missing escort. This vessel, though, was not nearly as well maintained. The silver, purple sheen of the armor had dulled to a matte gray, and pockmarks in the material hinted at a considerably more down on their luck owner. As the probe moved towards the ship it quickly altered course, moving to intercept.

Sitting tight it would have to be.
With Eresh handling any closer analysis of the strange vessel through the probe, Tycho suddenly found himself with an anxious lack of agency. He could only continue to watch telemetry data as it flowed in, but it would only be able to tell him so much.
"Our friend's changing course-- intercept pattern. The probe, I think. Not us."
He let out a nervous sigh through the nose, and slouched a bit in his seat.
"What's this guy's deal, Feathers? What're we dealing with?"
Eresh would look at the read out with a confused expression, ignoring the survey read outs of the planetoids as he focused on the ship.
“It looks like a Sangheli ship, but the strange thing is that it seems to be old.. very old and ill-maintained. It is definitely not one of our escorts.” He then looked at Samus over shoulder “It could possibly be a pirate vessel, stay on guard.”
