I CAN'T HEAR THE STARS ANYMORE... BUT THE VOICE SPEAKS TO ME IN THE DARK…
A nod as Samus began carefully arming the ship's main weapons and defense systems. The sensor shroud could keep most instruments from detecting the Thrush, though it couldn't exactly hide the gunship's actual mass, nor did it actually hide the vessel if someone actually looked through a viewport right at it. That said, to her knowledge, the Sangheili still did not use bridge viewports for navigation as they were a vulnerability, so any external cameras wouldn't see them.
"Just buckle up and get ready if there's trouble," the blonde stated as she made sure that her own harnesses were secured. Shields were up, all forward guns and swiveling turrets readied. If they turned out to just be another prospector, then no harm done. But if they were something else…
The alien ship would silently drift through the asteroid belt, barely providing any power to its engines. While it seemed to not detect the Chozo built gunship it would slow as it approached the launched probe, eventually holding still relative to the object and pulling it aboard - after which all telemetry from it would cease.
Findings:
Roll 1: A handful of carbonaceous asteroids. Two frozen worlds of ice and silicate oxides with minimal mineral value. Roll 2: Four rocky planets around a red dwarf star. Trace deposits of Nickel and Iron on two of the four. Roll 3: Three worlds. One frozen, two rocky worlds with trace Iron deposits. Roll 4: Nickel and Iron rich asteroid belt detected.

Well, that was curious. Outright hostiles would have destroyed the probe, though the strange vessel hadn't indicated that it wasn't hostile, since so far, they weren't proving capable of detecting the Thrush. Still, she had no signal reaching them anymore, which was more than enough to make her even more cautious than she already was before.
"Strap down, boys." Samus narrowed her eyes as she set the targeting computers and began bringing them closer toward the unknown vessel. "Good thing about a sensor shroud instead of a full out cloak is that it's not as power intensive and shuts your shields down." All the same, however, the navcom was already running the needed calculations to make the jump into the slipstream if need be. Especially after events of late, Samus was learning that she needed to be far more cautious that she had been in the past. "Tycho, I'm linking the rear turret to the secondary station, eyes sharp and try to keep up."
From there, it was on her to keep her reactions on point and stay alert.
Eresh would examine the returns on the console for a few more moments before he sighed somewhat heavily. Something didn’t feel quite right, but he had no real way to articulate why. It should be simple: the vessel either belonged to brigands or it didn’t. But their behavior was strange.. it wasn’t aggressive but it wasn’t cautious either.. they were just.. there.
“I’m again grateful that I was able to save the old bird from plummeting back into the atmosphere of that charming hellhole we visited awhile back, Ha’chidari.” He said nonchalantly as he fastened his safety restraints. “Who knows what sort of shoddy replacement our benefactors would’ve tried to saddle you with.”

Tycho made an irritated face as he watched the telemetry feed go dead behind his very eyes, letting out a small huff. How nice of them to swipe the damn thing.
His tune changed rather quickly all the same, abiding by Samus's order and reaching up over his shoulders to strap himself in. The Vlaka directed his attention to the secondary station before him and watched the feed for the rear turret spool up, giving the systems a quick once-over to figure them out, before settling back into his seat a little more determined. Here was something more his speed!
"My eyes are the sharpest part of me," he said, eyeing the targeting array on the console. There was a familiar comfort to the role, despite the unfamiliar technology. "Turret's purring-- I'm all set."
Engines flared, spiking on the sensors of the Chozo built gunship as the old Covenant era design dozens of kilometers ahead began to move again after taking possession of the probe. Unlike before, however, there would be an apparent purpose to the ship's movements - a slow, drifting prowl as it moved through the asteroids, and if it had been hiding before for whatever reason it no longer was. While the design of the vessel hinted at the very real possibility of possessing a Covenant era hyperscanner aboard the instruments aboard Samus's own ship would detect a number of additional emissions from the smooth hull, other technologies reaching out to search and begin categorizing the asteroids and other debris around the vessel. As it did so the ship would drift closer and closer to the hidden gunship, following the prior trajectory of the probe it had intercepted - increased definition via proximity allowing Samus's instruments to identify the ship as an old Zanar-pattern light cruiser, albeit bearing no known markings or transponder signals attached to any official military within the Spur.

While it didn’t take much to realize what was happening, Eresh gave a low hiss or agitation.
“Ship is moving along the probes flight path, back-tracing. If you are planning to do anything elaborate Samus, we have perhaps twenty-thirty seconds before that ship is grazing us if it keeps its current trajectory. It is your call.

She narrowed her eyes, watching carefully as she nudged her ship slowly closer to one of the larger rocks of planetary debris. It would help hide their mass if they were close enough, but she didn't trust those other sensor emissions that her own system was picking up. Old Covenant era design. No markings, no transponders that matched existing databases.
Where in the hells was their escort?
“Might be pirates,” she muttered as she brought the Thrush to a parked halt mere meters from the asteroid that outsized them by several dozen meters and many many classes of tonnage. “Old Covenant era light cruiser, no marks or transponder ID. Hold tight in case we have to jump out of here.”
She still has a minute or two before the navcom would have a route calculated. Worst come to worst, she hopefully just needed to delay an attack or evade them just for a little bit and they could jump.

The Covenant, for once, was a recognizable name. A big part of semi-modern Human history, as he understood it. Mention of them was still semi-ubiquitous on a lot of worlds he had visited, if in no other way than a time of struggle universally understood by mankind. The origin of some of their most famous/infamous super soldier projects too, no less.
If nothing else, the name gave the Vlaka an idea of how old the ship was... and how weird it was to see one out here alone. Pirates seemed like an easy assumption, even if all that made him think of was the Kromus...
He would have nothing to add, otherwise. An anxious claw tapped on the edge of the console in waiting, burning eyes watching the ship's signature through the turret's display...
