About the Character
Franchise/Setting this Character is From || Mono original!
How Much Experience Do You Have With Character/Franchise? || 5ish years?
Why Would This Character Be A Good Fit For Our Site? || Aileen is an unaugmented human Marine, previously of the UNSC, though now under Confed command, which, aside from bringing a rather unique perspective, makes her one of the few more or less normal human military characters active at present, and with her particular history, I believe there are many plot hooks that can been generated for others to enjoy.
Do You Roleplay This Character Elsewhere? || No.
References For People Who Are Unfamiliar || The long and short of it is that Aileen is an ODST with some minor esoteric powers that served for the entirety of the Human-Covenant War, then went missing from 2560 until the late 2900s when her ship, the UNSCEuclid's Anvil, went missing during a Slipspace jump and was presumed lost with all hands.
Height & Weight || 5'10"(177.8cm), 140lbs(63.5kg)
Identifying Features || Full back tattoo of the 105th ODST Division insignia with the ODST motto across the small of her back
Overall || Standing 5'10" and with a head of white hair, Aileen bears a striking appearance as humans go. Her build is hard and toned as any ODST, and she as quick to laugh as to scowl. When not on duty, Aileen enjoys wearing comfortable clothing, which may range from jeans and tshirts to sundresses, depending on her mood, though she prefers to avoid formal attire whenever possible, and is more comfortable in her BDU than dress uniform. While the hue of her eyes share her father's soft hazel, the intensity with which they often burn is a trait shared with her estranged mother.
The Personality
Personal Strengths || While not explicitly trained to such a purpose from childhood, Aileen's tutelage under her mother's care means that, combined with her training in the UNSC Marine Corps, few humans are more honed to the ways combat that are not augmented. Beyond her physical prowess, Aileen possesses a degree of arcane ability, though rather than the raw power weilded by Eliza, she favors a variety of cantrips, many of which are more utilitarian in nature, thus ensuring that she is rarely unprepared for a challenge. Rounding out these strengths is Aileen's intellect, which not only helped her to survive the Human-Covenant War, but also enabled her to be accepted to the University of Edinburgh and major in Xenoarcheological Studies while still actively serving as an ODST.
Personal Weaknesses || Like many that lived through the Human-Covenant War, Aileen is slow to trust nonhumans, and holds a particular hatred for Jiralhanae that is not likely to fade soon, even if a number of Jiralhanae are now members of the Terran Confederation. Beyond this, she is as prideful as one might expect of one of the infamous Helljumpers, though thus far, her skills have been enough to keep her pride from getting into any serious trouble. Aileen also has a strong aversion to large insects, in large part due to the Yanme'e swarms that were deployed in various ground campaigns where she was present, and in general, is highly distrustful of nonhumans.
Goals || Having spent nearly her entire adult life in the UNSC Marine Corps, Aileen sees no reason to cease her service to the UEG's successor state, the Terran Confederation,
Fears || Large insects, SOEIV failure, the Flood

driven to make long-term plans and put them into action, as well as to be
successful in their careers and personal lives.
Weaknesses
ENTJs are like everyone else in that they have their own strengths and
weaknesses. Here are some things that ENTJs might want to work on:
• Lack of empathy: ENTJs are usually focused on getting what they
want and may not always take the time to think about how other people
feel and what their point of view is. They might seem cold or emotionless,
and they might need to work on their ability to understand and care about
other people.
• Rigidity: ENTJs can be very goal-oriented and driven, and they can get
stuck on making sure they reach their goals. If a plan doesn't work out,
they might become stubborn or refuse to look at other points of view or
change course.

bureaucracy that they think are unnecessary or take too much time. This
can make them hurry through important details or make quick decisions,
both of which can lead to mistakes or missed things.

as natural leaders. However, they can also seem overbearing, arrogant, or
scary to other people. They might do better if they worked on how they

they can get stuck on making sure they reach their goals. If a plan doesn't

Romantic Relationships
As natural leaders, ENTJs tend to approach relationship building the same way
they do other parts of their lives: with self assurance and confidence. They
tend to be decisive and may decide quickly if they like a potential partner or
not. They like people who are smart, sure of themselves, and independent, and
who can keep up with their quick wit and confidence.
When it comes to relationships, ENTJs tend to be very driven and goaloriented. They might make a plan to get to a certain level of closeness and
commitment, and then they'll work hard to get there. They often value honesty,
loyalty, and communication in their relationships. Partners who aren't willing to
be open and direct can frustrate them.
They can be strong and sure of themselves, and others may see them as
natural leaders. However, they may also come across as bossy, arrogant, or
scary. They might do better if they worked on how they talk and how others see
them. ENTJs are not instinctually in touch with their emotions and may find it
hard to understand or express their own feelings. They may benefit from
working on their emotional intelligence.
They may also be prone to micromanaging their partner in the same way they
do with their employees or team members. They need to be aware of this and
learn to let go a little bit.
The best partner for an ENTJ is someone who is self-assured, independent,
and witty enough to keep up with them. They are often attracted to people who
are smart, driven, and goal-oriented, and who have the same amount of drive
and determination as them.
The perfect partner for an ENTJ is someone who is:
• Confident: ENTJs are often attracted to people who are sure of
themselves, comfortable in their own skin, and can hold their own in a
debate or conversation.
• Independent: ENTJs are often independent, and they like partners who
can balance their independence with what the relationship needs.
• Intelligent and goal-oriented: ENTJs are often attracted to people
who are also smart and goal-oriented and share their drive and
determination to reach their goals.
• Good communicator: ENTJs want their relationships to be honest and
open, and they would like a partner who can say what they think and feel
in a clear way.
• Supportive: ENTJs are often very goal-oriented and driven, so they
may need a partner who can give them emotional support and motivation.
• Flexible: ENTJs can be very goal-oriented and driven, and they can get
stuck on making sure they reach their goals. They might be better off with
a partner who is flexible and can help them see things from different
points of view.
ENTJs are more likely to have a happy love life if they are aware of their
strengths and weaknesses and try to improve in some areas. Here are some
things ENTJs can do to make their love lives better:
• Work on their emotional intelligence: ENTJs aren't naturally in touch
with their emotions and may find it hard to understand or express their
own. They can make their love lives better if they learn to understand and
talk about their feelings better.
• Communicate openly and honestly: ENTJs want their relationships to
be honest and open. They can improve their love life by trying to talk to
their partner in a clear and honest way and by really listening to what their
partner has to say.
• Be more flexible: ENTJs can be very goal-oriented and driven, and
they can get stuck on making sure they reach their goals. They can
improve their love lives by being more open to different points of view and
by learning to be more flexible and adaptable in their relationships.
• Show empathy: ENTJs may find it hard to understand or communicate
their feelings. They can improve their love life by trying to be more
understanding and empathetic toward their partner.
• Avoid micromanaging: ENTJs tend to manage their partners the
same way they do their employees or team members. They need to be
aware of this and learn to let go a little bit.
• Learn to compromise: ENTJs may be assertive, confident, and natural
leaders, but they need to learn how to compromise in a partnership to
have a happy love life.

others can't. They are self-reliant and like to work on their own, rather than in a
group. They might be seen as reliable, efficient, and productive workers who
can be counted on to meet deadlines and get things done. They are usually

uncertainty. But ENTJs can also come off as bossy, arrogant, or scary to
some of their coworkers, and they may have trouble showing empathy or
understanding what other people need.
ENTJs are natural leaders who can take charge of a situation and get other
people to follow their lead. But ENTJs have their own strengths and
weaknesses, just like everyone else. Here are some things that ENTJs may
want to work on at work:
• Empathy: ENTJs are usually focused on getting what they want and
may not always take the time to think about how other people feel and
what their point of view is. They might seem cold or emotionless, and they
might need to work on their ability to understand and care about other
people.

get stuck on getting what they want. If a plan doesn't work out, they might
become rigid and unwilling to consider other points of view or change
course.
• Patience: ENTJs can get frustrated with rules, procedures, and
bureaucracy that they think are unnecessary or take too much time. This
can make them hurry through important details or make quick decisions,
both of which can lead to mistakes or missed things.
• Communication: ENTJs can be assertive, sure of themselves, and
seen as natural leaders. However, they can also come across as bossy,
arrogant, or scary to others. They might do better if they worked on how
they talk and how others see them.
• Listening: ENTJs are often smart and quick-witted, and they enjoy
debates and discussion. They might do well to work on their active
listening skills and think about other people's points of view before giving
their own.
• Delegation: ENTJs are usually good at giving other people tasks to do,
but they may need to work on giving their team members the power and
trust to make decisions and take responsibility for their work.
Conclusion
Conductors (ENTJs) can overcome or get around problems that seem
impossible to most people because they have a strong mind and think
strategically. At the same time, their many quirks, like their often unrestrained
rationalism, cause a lot of confusion. Those misunderstandings end here.
Reflect on this information we’ve provided, and take some time to apply your
logical thinking and leadership skills to managing your own life. This will be the
beginning of a wonderful journey of self-fulfillment and learning.
Talents and Equipment
Unique Abilities || While Aileen is as physically gifted as any ODST, where she truly stands out is her uncanny aim that, while not so superhuman as the famed Spartans or a Kig-Yar sniper, has enabled her to strike armored and airborne vehicles while she is herself mobile, both with her M99 or M395B, and with an M68. In addition, Aileen does possess a measure of arcane talent, though she will pass the effects off as mundane matters.
Skills || Having served as a Reconnaisance Marine and ODST, Aileen is highly skilled in land navigation, marksmanship, small squad tactics, and in training others to these same standards. She is also capable of identifying and triangulating highly precise points in space with minimal data, as well as logging navigational data manually.
Training || Aileen's mother taught her much in the ways of magic, and while Aileen's own talents are not so prodigious, she is gifted in the use of cantrips, and can brew potions at need. It was also from her mother than Aileen was taught to keep her body in peak form, and learned savate and kali from her. Aileen has additional training in infantry and small squad tactics, SERE, exoatmospheric insertions, zero-g maneuvering and combat, and scouting and reconnaisance sniping from the UNSC Marine Corps. Beyond military training, Aileen also has degrees in Xenoarcheological Studies, Astronavigation, and Military Studies from the University of Edinburgh and the Academy at Mare Nubium.
Combat Strengths || Aileen is a highly accomplished marksman, as she has demonstrated on a number of platforms, and has even provided accurate long-range fire with the M68 Gauss Cannon from a moving vehicle. Beyond this, Aileen is exceptionally creative in overcoming obstacles, thus solidifying her place among the elite ranks of the ODSTs.
Combat Weaknesses || Though tall as women go, Aileen is physically weaker than most of her fellow ODSTs, and must employ alternative methods to fill this gap.
Weapons || Gabrielle- A heavily modified coilgun rifle that began life as an M99 Stanchion, Gabrielle fires 5.4x58mm 122g ferrous tungsten slugs at anywhere from 2,000fps to a mindnumbing 15,000m/s
Hellion- A modified M395B Designated Marksman Rifle fitted with an energy bayonet and 4x-8x magnification smart scope
Whisper- An M6C/SOCOM pistol fitted with a quick-release minimalist stock to allow for use as a carbine
Memorium- A custom-forged M11 Combat Knife given to Aileen in 2553 as a momento of her service throughout the Human-Covenant War

The History
Family Information ||
Father: Eredoc Van Schrouder(deceased, killed by spike grenade lodged in chest during the 2552 Battle of Earth)
Mother: Eliza Lockheed(alias at the time was Mary Silverman)
Husband: James Platt(status unknown, presumed dead of natural causes sometime in the 2600s)
Homeworld || Kenosha, Tanais, Mars, Sol System
History || Aileen Van Schrouder was born 5 September 2500 in the city of Kenosha in the Tanais region of Mars to Mary and Eredoc Van Schrouder, who, being a well-to-do couple working in the small arms industry, saw that their daughter wanted for nothing. Even so, her mother began to teach Aileen of the arcane arts at a young age, as well as martial arts, much as Mary's mother had taught her. As a result, Aileen was a more mature child than most of her peers at the private school she attended until 16. Being an exceptionally studious mind, and increasingly defiant of her mother over the refusal to teach her the full depth of what she knew, Aileen took on additional courses in astrogation and military history through a UNSC training program offered by the school, having seen the increasingly dire reports of Insurrectionist activities in the Outer Colonies.
Though her mother in particular disapproved of the move, Aileen enlisted into the UNSC Marine Corps at the age of 19, on 12 October 2519, and shipped out to Reach for training as a Reconnaisance Marine. Though her training was difficult, the physical aspects proved to be little challenge, in large part due to the training she'd gone through since childhood that had conditioned her to peak fitness, and this alone helped to set her course in the future. Upon completion of her training, Aileen was stationed on nearby Tribute, where she took part in Operation: TREBUCHET from May 2520 until May 2524, when, now a Staff Sergeant, she was selected and accepted orders to undergo additional training in Seongnam to become an ODST. Upon the completion of this training, Aileen was transferred to Joint Base Mackenzie on Callisto, where she was given additional training in zero-g operations before being assigned to Bravo Company, 21st Space Assault Battalion in March 2525. A year later, she and the rest of the 21st SAB were assigned to Task Force Yama to conduct Operation: SILENT STORM, which would be her first fight against the Covenant, though far from her last. From early March to mid-April, she took part in battles against both the Insurrection and the Covenant while attached to the UNSC Black Widow as part of Task Force Yama.
Following the dissolution of Task Force Yama, Aileen was reassigned to the 340th ODST Combat Training Unit, where she used her experiences fighting the Covenant to train ODSTs and other special operations personnel in the tactics and weaponry of the enemy until September 2528, when she was returned to active ODST status and assigned to the UNSC Clearidas. Later in December of the same year, she would be deployed in the Battle of Hat Yai with Delta Company, 2nd Shock Troops Battalion, 105th ODST Division. The battle soon became a rout, however, as would be the case again and again in the coming years, and she was forced to evacuate with the surviving members of her unit in order to escape. From 2529-2535, Aileen was able to study via remote courses from the University of Edinburgh, focusing on Xenoarchelogical Studies in hopes of better understanding her enemy, and saw little action until she was transferred to the UNSC Midsummer Night under the command of Captain Dmitri Zheng. While she hated what the Covenant were doing, she could not help be to be intrigued by them, and she would continue her studies in the future as her duties allowed.
While stationed on the Midsummer Night, Aileen went with Lieutenant Jacob Keyes in a boarding action to a civilian freighter, the Finnigan's Wake, which turned out to be an Insurrectionist trap that claimed the lives of several of her comrades. Following this incident, the Midsummer Night was assigned to track the origins of Covenant weapons that had been modified for use by humans on Charybdis XI, which led to she and a number of other ODSTs aboard being deployed to the planet's surface when riots broke out, led by Insurrectionists. Following the suppression of those riots, Aileen was recalled to the ship, and soon after, a Covenant fleet arrived to glass the planet. When the Midsummer Night recieved orders to track another civilian ship, the Kestrel, they followed it to an asteroid compound known as the Rubble, located in the 23 Librae System. However, due to the Rubble being controlled by the Insurrection, they were fired upon and forced to surrender, leading to their imprisonment until Spartan Jai-006 freed Lieutenant Keyes and the rest ofthe crew of the Midsummer Night with the assistance of the Rubble's resident AI, Juliana. Once freed, Aileen assisted in commandeering the Mighty Sparrow in order to escape from the Rubble, as Covenant forces were preparing to invade, and from there, was taken back to the Midsummer Night in order to deploy to the nearby moon of Metisette alongside Jai-006 of Grey Team. The Battle of Metisette would prove to be among the few victories that the UNSC saw during the war, and one that Aileen, despite having to work alongside Insurrectionists, would enjoy recalling for years to come.
Another lull in combat deployments followed from 2536 until 2544, during which time Aileen completed her Masters in Xenoarcheological Studies and a Bachelors in Astronavigation. Following this period of relative calm in Aileen's life, she was assigned to the UNSC Aegis Fate, and in 2546, she and elements of the 105th ODST Division were deployed to Sargasso to assist in the evacuation of the civilian population while additional elements conducted operations to retrieve research data from a Lethbridge Industrial production facility, though this secondary mission was not made apparent to non-ONI forces. During the operation, Aileen linked up with a fellow ODST by the name of Jennifer Braddock who had been separated from her squad during the heavy fighting in the city of Belisk. Despite being heavily outnumbered, the ODSTs were able to eliminate the enemies in their area and escape to a ground base elsewhere on Sargasso, though Aileen was retrieved shortly after, and both she and Jennifer were assigned to the UNSC Chares in December of 2546. The following year, the Chares was deployed to Skopje, where Aileen again worked alongside a Spartan in the effort to evacuate civilian shipbuilding personnel to Reach. Following this deployment, she was transferred to the UNSC In Amber Clad, where she remained until April 2552, when she was transferred to Reach with the 7th Shock Troop Battalion, 105th ODST Division, where she would meet her future husband, a then-Gunnery Sergeant James Platt.
Later that same year, Aileen would be deployed to combat the Covenant at the Battle at Szurdok Ridge, manning an M68 Gauss Cannon mounted on an M12G1 LAAV to great effect. While Operation: UPPERCUT was underway, the 7th Shock Troop Battalion was redirected to aid in the evacuation of New Alexandria, where the conditions rapidly deteriotated in the wake of the arrival of the main Covenant fleet, and without the assistance of Spartan-III Fireteam Gauntlet, likely would have been unable to complete their own rendezvous aboard the UNSC Aegis Fate. With the Reach's fall inevitable, the Aegis Fate departed, with Aileen and a number of other survivors aboard, taking an indirect course back to Earth to prepare for the final battle. When the Covenant finally reached Earth, Aileen and the rest of Alpha Company, 7th Shock Troop Battalion deployed to Mombasa, engaging in street to street fighting against Covenant infantry on 20 October 2552 until they were recalled to the In Amber Clad. Aileen, however, was unable to make the rendezvous due to being blocked off by a Hunter patrol, though she was able to kill the pair with a modified M99 Stanchion that she'd kept as part of her kit since Operation: TREBUCHET. Isolated within the city, Aileen would continue to pick off targets of opportunity using a combination of her Stanchion and a suppressed M395B DMR for more than two weeks, slowly making her way out of the city before linking up with UNSC Marines along Tsavo Highway, and from there, partaking in the Battle of Voi on 17 November 2552, once again manning an M68 Gauss Cannon to great effect against Covenant armor present.
Following the Prophet of Truth's departure through the portal to the Ark, Aileen was able to recover, and was assigned to the UNSC Aegis Fate once again, where she found two old friends, Jennifer and James. The former having grown to be something like a little sister to Aileen, and a subdued romance blossoming between the latter, the time aboard the Aegis Fate was especially beneficial to Aileen's morale, particularly after her harrowing experiences skulking through the streets of New Mombasa alone. In early December, that respite would end, as the Aegis Fate was deployed alongside the UNSC Forward Unto Dawn through the portal, and arrived 11 December 2552 at the Ark. By this time a Master Gunnery Sergeant after having served for the entirety of the Human-Covenant War, Aileen led 2nd Platoon of Alpha Company in scouting and clearing out landing zones for the Forward Unto Dawn and Aegis Fate to operate from. Having dropped behind enemy lines, however, this mission was soon sidelined in favor of neutralizing Covenant forces that were of more immediate threat. Fortunately, the actions of Master Chief John-117 diverted attention away, and they were able to link back up with the rest of the UNSC ground forces in time for UNSC armor to be deployed in order to neutralize Covenant armor units present along the route needed in order to prevent the Halo Array from being fired. Though casually trained on the use of all UNSC ground vehicles, including the M808 Scorpion, Aileen opted to ride on the tread seat, providing additional fire support with her Stanchion. Upon linking up with Marine forces at the rally point, Aileen and the remaining ODSTs returned to the Aegis Fate in order to rearm and redeploy via SOEIV in support of the primary objective on the Ark, making no fewer than 4 combat drops prior to the withdrawal order back aboard the Aegis Fate.
Following their return to Earth, Aileen spent several months of leave, helping to assist James in his recovery. During this time, she attended her father's funeral, as he had been killed fighting a Covenant hunting party that had entered the headquarters of Highlander Arsenal, where he was the chief of security. Following the funeral, she and her mother met at length, and after an argument in which Aileen blamed her mother for Eredoc's death, citing Mary's refusal to help fight in the war, they broke off contact. In June of 2553, James proposed to Aileen on the hiking trails along the slopes of Mt Kilomanjaro, overlooking the Voi Memorial, and 21 June 2554, they were married in New Paris, Mars. Despite this, Aileen would attend the Academy at Mare Nubium a year later, though with her existing education, she was able to graduate in only two years, recieving her commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in May 2557, and assigned to the newly constructed Autumn-class heavy cruiser Euclid's Anvil, as a junior officer with the 103rd Shock Troops Battalion, 65th ODST Division. While James was assigned to the Anvil, as well, in 2558, he was offered to become a Spartan-IV, which he accepted. While Aileen was also offered a position as a Spartan-IV candidate, she opted to decline, though she was permitted to visit on leave.
Unfortunately, the Euclid's Anvil would go missing with all hands in early 2560, a month prior to James's graduation as a Spartan, and Aileen and the rest of the personnel aboard the Anvil would be declared lost with all hands until 2977, when salvagers discovered the ship buried in a barren planetoid. Terran Confederation forces were soon mobilized to assist in the recovery of the ship and her personnel, though waking up 400 years after she went into cryosleep proved to be a jarring thing to put it mildly. Since returning to human-controlled space, Aileen has focused on learning all she can about what has changed, so that she might make as an informed a decision as possible.

Roleplay Sample || Aileen looked down at her gauntleted hand, slowly flexing her fingers as she felt the suit move with her, almost mesmerized by the sensation. It certainly wasn't MJOLNIR, but as far as Aileen was concerned, it was in many ways better. After all, what good was a piece of equipment if less than a battalion's worth of soldiers could even use it? The woman allowed herself a faint smile as she thought of her best friend, Jen, and how the Spartan teased her about not being able to keep up, then pulled her helmet on and made sure the seal was in place. A soft chime sounded in her ear, and Aileen called out to the others gathered nearby. "Five minutes to drop! Everyone, to your pods!" A thill of excitement coursed through her veins as it always did before a drop, but this one was different for several reasons. It was her first combat drop in more than 400 years, though from Aileen's perspective, it was more like 8 years, and it was in defense of nonhumans. Elves, or so she'd been told, no less. Granted, they called themselves Ylf'in, but from all she'd learned of the near-human species, they might as well have been named things like Elrond and Gil-galad as far as the seasoned ODST was concerned. The third and greatest difference, however, was that this time, she was to command her own squad of Marines to assault the enemy fortifications that had been set up in the subjugated capital city. Apparently, a pair of bounty hunters had been conducting hit and run raids on enemy supply lines and small patrols for some time, and it had been one of them that had sent out the word confirming the presence of a Kromus occupation force. Not the most ideal intel source in her personal appearance, but apparently, this one had been legit, she mused. Aileen pushed that from her mind, and focused wholly on the mission itself.
"Intel says the Kromus ground commanders are holed up in the local government district, which should prove a nice little challenge, because the locals apparently are the biggest hippies in the galaxy," Aileen explained to her squad, pulling up the images they'd been given of the buildings, or rather, trees. "We drop on those, and our landings won't be the kind we like. So our LZ will be here," she continued, displaying a ridge a few kilometers from the treetop city that was relatively clear of the larger trees. "From there, we will penetrate the enemy lines, and either capture or kill the Kromus leadership planetside. Any questions?"
"Sounds like business as usual, maybe even a little easier than what we've been getting," one of the men, Mendoza, if she recalled, remarked. He'd been among the bulk of those who had been on the Anvil when the ship had gone missing back in 2560. He'd grown up fighting the Covenant like so many she knew. The Kromus were a threat, certainly, and they weren't afraid to glass a planet to make a point, but in Aileen's view, they were far from the force of existential dread that the Covenant had been.
"Don't get cocky, Mendoza, but I hope you're right. Anyone else have anything to say?" Aileen asked as she looked around to the members of her squad.
No one volunteered anything further, which meant everyone understood the objective, and that brought a smile to Aileen's face. It was familiar, like the brief prayer uttered for the group of elite commandos before they went to their SOEIVs, like the dull rumble as their pods launched from the Euclid's Anvil. Another drop, and this time, it was Aileen's time to accelerate ahead of the others, as longstanding tradition of the ODSTs dictated. The first five minutes went by in relative silence, the atmosphere too thin at such altitudes to create any resistance to speak of. It was the quiet before the storm, when troopers performed their own private pre-combat rituals, bringing their minds to focus on the mission, and pushing out everything else until after. A shudder informed Aileen that she'd reached low enough into the atmosphere to create turbulence, and with that, the outer hull of her pod began to heat.
"Enemy AA emplacements spotted, 5 klicks south of our LZ," another ODST announced over the comms.
"Good eye, Hale. Adjust your course, people. Our birds are gonna need those emplacements dealt with before the main force can land," Aileen ordered, adjusting her own pod's course and accelerating to the maximum safe tolerances of her pod. Bolts of plasma hurtled towards the pods, unsurprisingly to Aileen, but it seemed that whatever these "Kromus" were, they were nowhere near the crack shots that Kig-Yar were, and even after deploying drogue chutes. "Welcoming party seems a bit disappointing," the Lieutenant remarked dryly after five minutes of admittedly intermittent fire had failed to strike a single pod.
"Think maybe they thought the fighting was done and they still don't know what they're shooting at?" Mendoza wondered, and in the moment, Aileen couldn't be sure if he was joking or not.
"More likely they're just not the best soldiers," she replied, or rather, started to, as a plasma bolt flashed past her pod close enough that the temperature within her pod skyrocketed, drawing a startled curse from the woman's lips. "Near miss, still good," she quickly announced to set her comrades at ease. Fortunately, that was the only near-miss, and soon after, six SOEIVs collided with the forested planet surface, with one Kromus being unfortunate to be occupying the space where Sanderson's pod landed. Almost as one, the doors blew open, and suppressed rifle rounds ripped through the air, shattering exoskeletons and rending alien flesh. It was Aileen's first command, but nearly all six ODSTs had worked alongside each other at one point or another during the war that, for them, had only been a decade ago.
"Area clear," Sanderson announced as the data systems specialist began working his magic to permanantly disable the AA gun with the help of an intrusion AI. "Gun should be done in 30 seconds."
"Understood. Mendoza, keep watch for him, then both of you catch up with us. Everyone else, let's move towards that ridge, see what we can find." With that, Aileen pulled Gabrielle from the interior of her pod, then dialed the output down to a mere 3,000fps muzzle velocity, so that she would be able to fire without anchoring the weapon. It might not be much stronger than an SRS99-AM like that, but it was roughly the same weight, and she could carry more ammunition with the assistance of her armor. She'd heard of fully powered armor suits that were safe for baseline humans, but those weren't at all standard issue, and she doubted she'd be able to convince requisitions to sign off on her getting something like that for official use so soon after returning to active duty. Something to remember, though, she mused, and, cradling the massive rifle in her arms, Aileen started north, leading her squad to the next leg of their mission, with Sanderson and Mendoza not long behind.
