"They're among th' few that can interbreed wi humans, actually. Plenty of theories on how and why, but that can be fer a later date," Eliza explained. "Erm..Eresh? How stealthy is yer ship?" she wondered as she realized what his intent might well be. "If ye get their attention wi air power, ye know they'll likely scramble their own fighters, aye? My ship's na made fer combat so much as it is infiltration, so if yer ship's na sneaky, we'd be better off ridin' in mine, or rangin' on foot."
“Yes, that definitely should be a conversation for another time.” He said, before then chirruping in thought. “Well.. my vessel is a stealth operations gunship, so it’s indeed built with stealth in mind. But I had another idea in mind. The people of this world have been generous enough to grant me use of a- modified scouting vehicle. I think it would be safer to stay under the trees then flying overhead.
That, and it gives the insects less reason to stick their disgusting noses in this direction.”

Eliza arched an eyebrow as she looked the Chozo over again, doubt clear in her expression. "Can ye even fit on a Skimmer?" she asked. "Ye're like twice as big as most Ylf'in. Jist how modified is this vehicle of yers?" she wondered. Skimmers were somewhat akin to the recon vehicles used first by the former Covenant, which many, particularly in human-controlled regions, knew as Ghosts, though they were significantly quieter, and while rarely armored the way the Ghosts were, even identifying a skilled Skimmer pilot in forested areas was a challenge few were equipped to meet. They were not, however, particularly large, and ill-suited for heavy loads. Still, if he had a Skimmer, then they could make almost any approach they desired within reason without detection.
"Wait..ye said ye have a gunship? A stealth operations gunship? What, are ye military or somethin'? I dinna think yer people even had a military." Eliza wasn't particularly concerned, but the implications were a surprise all the same. She'd been under the impression that the Chozo were a dying species, and no longer had an interest in maintaining a dedicated fighting force, nor the means to do so, even if they did have interest.
This made the large avian chuff again, his amusement more noticeable now as he began walking towards some shrubbery. “A normal skimmer would indeed be too small for me, you’re right about that. Happily, as it so happens the people of this world and the Chozo have had a very long relationship- reaching back centuries of not longer. So to my good fortune, some rather dedicated engineer had created a few that were more suited for someone of my.. let us just say substantial stature.” And he would carefully uncover said vehicle, another chuckle heard.
“From what I have been told, this particular machine was a passion project.. a very functional collectors item since my people don’t travel much these days- supposedly. But I was graciously loaned this vehicle, and it’s been quite useful.”
At her questions about his gunship, however, he was quiet for a moment. “Let’s just say that your education about the Chozo is incomplete and leave it at that, hm?” He then would walk back towards one of the crates that dotted his camp, opening it and pulling out a satchel, filling it with a few essentials.

Eliza frowned from beneath her helmet as she weighed Eresh's words, the hair on the back of her neck standing on end at the unspoken implications. The Chozo seemed..off. It was something the Witch couldn't properly vocalize, but the Chozo were noted to be pacifists, yet this Eresh was clearly some sort of warrior. Chozo were known for sharing knowledge, yet he was as secretive as Eliza was herself, and if her own history and nature told her anything, it was that not knowing with this possible ally could well prove disastrous. But how to gather further information without creating tension needlessly?
"How can ye be somethin' like a soldier? Either ye're one or na. Hunters are completely different, ye know," she pointed out as she made her way towards the vehicle. "How old are ye, anyway?" Eliza asked abruptly, seemingly without any sort of connective line of thought.
Eresh paused for a moment, and would tilt his head as he turned to look at her, perplexed. He didn’t have the luxury to be too candid, but he felt that it wouldn’t hurt to give a little bit about himself at least.
“It’s not as complicated as you might think. I was once a soldier, and now I’m not- simple as that.” He then gave a shrug as he absently rest a hand on the skimmer. “Well, when I last checked I was 186.. give or take a month or two.”

That was certainly a revelation, but in a way, she supposed it made sense. The GalFed database listed Chozo as ranging from 2.1 to 2.4 meters, and yet Eresh had to have been nearly 3 meters tall. Such a divergence in culture and morphology suggested that he almost certainly wasn't a part of the Chozo population she was aware of. The age managed to make her smile, though. "So young, but old enough ta na be caught by surprise by a wee human lass?" she teased as she mounted up with a sort of casual grace that made her seem almost otherworldly. "Yer tribe's na fram th' Spur, is it? Ye're much more different than what I've studied of Chozo."
“I could say the same about you, being so at ease around a creature you’ve only read about.” He said in return, climbing aboard the Skimmer as well, leaning forward to take hold of the controls. He didn’t seem bothered by her presence as he started the vehicle up.

"I've been around long enough ta learn ta read people pretty well," Eliza replied. "Give it time, and ye might learn it, too," she added with a playful smirk, though this was hidden by her helmet. "That group ye'd mentioned? Due east fram here, though there's a gorge on th' way that'll force a detour unless ye have a way ta cross 300 meters of open air. River cuts through th' center," she explained. "So we'll need ta turn north ta where it's na as deep otherwise. Adds another 300 kilometers ta cover. Probably why th' damned bugs have yet ta press far, even settin' yer darin' raids aside." Eliza leaned forward to avoid crowding Eresh as he took the controls and started up the Skimmer.
"So..which arm is yer tribe fram, anyway? I canna imagine it's too far away.." she mused, not knowing how very wrong she was. "More ta th' point, why come ta th' Orion Spur? I mean, talk about rough neighborhoods.."
“Perhaps I will, though I don’t think you’re quite as good as you say- yet.. but not everyone can be as perceptive as me.” Came a joking remark- it seemed that with banter at least, he had a decently quick wit. The vehicle began to turn as he oriented the skimmer, and he gave a quiet chirp in thought. “I’m familiar with it, but I hope you don’t mind a long ride in that case.”
He had expected them to migrate eventually, but not for another week or two. He had quickly learned that the Kromus might’ve been superstitious.. but it didn’t actually stop heir attempts to enter the Forest- merely forced them to do so in a hesitant, almost cautious manner. He figured that they were hoping that by trying to attack another region that was far away- they wouldn’t be intruding into the territory of whatever monster that was picking them off and stringing them up from the trees. He would prove that their optimism was misplaced.
But as the pair of Hunters weaved through the trees and left his camp behind- Eliza’s questions about his tribe made him hum in thought.
“Mine isn’t a tribe you’ve likely ever heard of, and I’m sorry to say.. we hail from none of this galaxy’s spiral arms. We come from some place else. As to why we came here? Let’s just say there was an irrevocable difference of ideology that forced us to find a new home. And lucky for us, this place is far more peaceful than the place we called home, which is fortunate.”

That was certainly unexpected, Eliza conceded. She'd expected Eresh to have originated from the galaxy's far side, but being extragalactic did explain the divergences. She weighed the rest of what he'd said for a moment, then allowed herself a smirk. "So ye're part of that new group of Chozo I heard about on Daiban. Mawkin, was it? Apparently, it's still mostly hushed, coz that's all I've heard. Any chance ye can tell me more, though?" the Witch wondered. "Also, might sound a bit random, but do ye believe in magic?" It took everything Eliza had not to laugh at the ridiculous question, but she was certain Eresh knew how to keep a secret, she just needed to make certain he didn't freak out if and when she made use of her more esoteric abilities.
“Apparently not hushed enough,” Eresh said with a bemused tone as he deftly maneuvered the skimmer through the Forest, weaving between trees as he then would shrug. “You can ask questions, but I can’t promise that I can answer all of them.” He said plainly.. before tilting his head at her question about magic.
“I have seen my share, I’ve fought witch and warlock both; pitting wire and steel against swords and sorcery.”

"Lucky fer ye that we're on th' same side, then," Eliza chuckled. "I use all of th' above. So, exiles, then? What happened, if ye donna mind my askin'? Ye seem like a decent bloke, if a touch smug. Honor's a big thing fer yer people, I'm guessin'. Ask me how I know," she added with a grin.
“Glad to hear it.” And he would focus his attention on the path for a bit before he answered her “It was politically driven, that’s all you need to know- not my place to speak about it,” he said and would simply chuff a bit.
“I don’t really care how you know to be honest.” He said as he then made a sharp turn for a moment.

Eliza braced against the chassis as Eresh turned the Skimmer, mentally making a note of how he'd shut down that particular line of questioning. "What sort of magic users did ye face? Bit curious of that, since they're bloody rare in th' Spur. Been so fer damn near a millennium, really. Long story as ta why that is, but we've a few hours, if ye care ta hear it." As much as she was questioning, it seemed like a good idea to offer up some tidbit of information about herself or her people, though how much she was going to tell the Mawkin, she wasn't quite certain. On one hand, she doubted he would tell anyone she should be concerned about, but on the other hand..well, it was one thing to admit to being a magic user. It was quite another indeed to claim to be older than most of the governments in the Spur.
